Ok so I've been reading different info on other forums and Internet about running my tweeters active and ditching my dash speakers all together.

I know a local member yes you Marc just recently did his but I haven't heard it or ever heard tweeters ran active.

I have a 7 band EQ I still need to hook up so I was thinking of doing all this at the same time. Will I have enough adjustments and is it worth going through the troubles running my tweeters active?

I don't have many adjust on my deck or amp which is my only concern.

All opinions would be awesome

Here are the adjustments on my amp for both front and rear channels:

-Freq. Range: x1/x10
-Filter Freq. (Hz): 50-500
-Filter Slope: 12 dB/24 dB
-Input Voltage: Low/High
-Input Sens.
-Filter Mode: Off/LP/HP

You can use a combination of your amps xovers and your deck's xovers to get bandpass on the mids. You are fortunate to have the x10 switch which allows you to crossover up to 5k. Set the tweets as HP on the amp, I'd probably start around 3500-4k and work down from there. Set mids as LP on the amp, around the same area. You may end up with some overlap or underlap between the mids and tweets to take care of any peaks or dips. For the mids, you will set HP from the deck, don't run the mids any lower than about 80-100hz. Then you can use LP from the deck or sub amp for your subs.

my Alpine has the capability to do that and thats why i didn't use the crossover . between amp and HU it's worked out nicely

Run a ground on your RCA cable to the back of the HU, mine used to pop like that when the pressure switch relay clicked off.

also why do you feel like your need your tweeters active? just because?

Well I was looking at my manual for the deck doesn't look like I have any crossover or advanced settings. I have the Alpine DVA-9861

I'll probably end up buying an active crossover at some point but probably will want to hear your truck first Marc to see if I like how it sounds before I go through the trouble.

Spent some of the day yesterday trying to fix the slight popping noise from my sub/speakers everything I did didn't help only does it when I hit the rear switches so I wonder if those valves need better grounds.

Yeah I think I'm going to try this along with re-ground my rear valves. I just turn the deck off when I want to air the truck or or air out so I don't mess anything up.

I've heard running tweeters active give you a better sound quality so that's why but I'll probably hold out until I hear Marc's truck (S10 Dude) before I go through all the work see if it's worth it

look at it this way, you ditch the passive crossovers and gain back 15-20% of your lost power and dont have to worry about changing crossover points and saturation

technically if you get passive crossover set "A" and find out the specs completely, and then go to active with the EXACT SAME crossover settings but just done active/manual, there will be no difference in sound besides the minimal power lost due to the passive crossovers being used.

basically active just gives you the ability to adjust to YOUR liking. especially cheap passive sets will leave more to be desired where as a more expensive set will have more time/quality into the crossover network.

when you go active it will always sound worse, before getting better :). it does take a lot of time/adjusting to get it where you like it but the end result is worth it. honestly there is so many damn variables once you get down to it. you could listen to Marcs and it could sound like shit, "sound quality" is a vague definition from person to person. what sounds good to you can sound like shit to another. IMO its not worth going active on just the tweeters, i'd do the mid as well.

would be a good experience to listen to his. i was rolling my stock speakers up front because i thought they sounded "good" and they did, until i heard something better, then i looked back at my stock speakers and noticed how much was missing from my music. when marc gives you a demo it wouldnt be a bad idea to bring music along that you are familiar with to compare to.

on the 15-20% power comment, IMO that is irrelevant, your ears wont tell the difference in that minimal power missing and that could easily be overcome by an amp with ample headroom.

just my $.02

I would run the mids and tweets both active if I decide to go that route... I will most likely hold off until I listen to Marcs maybe play a couple of songs/music I listen to and judge from there. I understand it would take time to adjust and tune it properly to my liking but will probably be worth it.

Before I do any of that I'm going to hook up my EQ and decide what I want to do from there. Once I get a few odds and ends with the maintenance on the truck I'll tackle all that.

In the mean time little video I took at a show this past weekend of the truck... Sound quality is crap because of the mic on my iPhone
