Plans are either 3.4 or rebuild this 2.8. Time frame all summer have it back on the road by Oct. And fix the 4x4 vacum acuator. Also thinking about a 2"BL

Pulled the old junk 2.8 out of mine last winter, put in a 2.8 from a blazer, drives so much better. Sucks that i let my old engine die because of a freeze plug, but she pissed out antifreeze within 2 minutes and the engine got up to 300 degrees before it decided to pop. Wish i wouldve gone v8, but not enough time or resources at the time. Love my blazer 2.8 though. That old engine of yours had an ass of sludge in it.

I've used the stock replacement timing sets without issue.

Yeah, they work.
Only reason I suggest the Cloyes unit is they don't stretch much. I pulled one out of one of my blown 2.8s a while back and it had minimal stretch ( about 45K miles on it). I can't say that for the factory style chains. The Cloyes had about a half inch of stretch vs the 1 to 1 1/2 inch in a factory chain.
You really don't notice performance losses as the chains stretch since it's a gradual process, but when you replace a stretched chain, you can feel the difference.
I guess all I'm saying is why not go with the best if you can?
