I'm thinking of trying a SFBD since I just got my shop finally built. I'm thinking of building a frame table first does anyone have any pics of theirs. Also would it be worth building a frame table with the price of steel as high as it is if I don't do this on a regular basis.

nope

i used the level smooth concrete floor of a friend's garage.

worked great. the frame was like 1/16" out of being level so i tacked a washer under 1 corner to make it true
I would just try that but my floor of my shop is real ****ed up. Slab was already there. But saved me about 4000. I'll have to atleast make something level for the frame to sit on.

Dave, why do you think it won't help at all in a SFBD?

IMO, a table of any sort would help, especially if the floor is uneven...

Now, if you are simply grafting your new frame into the insides of the existing frame, I can see where one can get away without the table...

however, if you are grafting completely new frame rails all the way back, from the point where the frame curves upward at the firewall (aka, only using front frame clip), wouldn't the frame table be extremely helpful?

If all goes well, I will start a SFBD project on my daily this winter... I have another front frame clip, so I can build the frame and suspension, while still driving the daily...

I am toying with the idea of building a modular frame table that can be dissassembled into smaller bench style tables. 4 sections that bolt together and each have 4 adjustable legs to level the thing out.

i have seen people use wood and 2x4s to make one and made adjustable legs on it using a bolt and nut only bad thing is you could tack the frame to the table to keep it from moving

ya thats what i said j, if youre just doing a sfbd, then all youre doing is setting steel inside the frame under the cab, not messing with anythign else, so a table isnt going to do anything for you. ya you want the truck level either way but no need to build a table..

but if youre doing a backhalf, then it can be very useful, but you still dont need it....

Heres a cheep table i built for my S-10 a couple years ago. Its still in circulation someware in michigan, it gets passed around alot.

I bought 2 sticks of 2x4 tube, 1/8" thick. And all i did was make the frame table big enough for the wheel base. Total, i had around 200$ into the table. It could easily be made long enough for the entire vehicle to fit on, for under 300$

The best part about it is, you can sell it to get some $ out of it when your done, there are tons of people looking for tables like this. Or, since its 1/8" material, you can hang it from the rafters in your garage to store it, and it literally takes up no space at all.

I am currently the recipient of the fabulous frame table that was once claimed by Taylor.

Next on the list is another 2 hour trip north to be used by someone who has dibs on it currently.

I dont think i would have been able to do my frame as good as i did (straightness-wise) without the table. ( cut the front clip off and rebuilt everything from there)

Its great for setting up the wheelbase, marking bodymounts and trans mounts. best part is its wide enough to set the cab on and be able to get UNDER the table to do exhaust, mock up mounts and check for clearances and such.
