My project s-10

Well I have been looking threw the site and this seems like the thing to do so here we go.

It started life as a 94 S-10 standard cab V6

8” bodydrop 1.5” over the bottom of the doors
2.25” stock glass chop top
41” from the ground to the crown of the roof
Suicide doors
Shaved everything

after the bodydrop

Re: My project s-10

so let me see if i get this right. u took and extra 1.5 inches of the bottom the the door beyond the factof taking the rocker off? And then u chopped it 2.25 inches? U must be a midget to drive that thing when its done. Also why didnt you stock floor it some to gaina little more head room? ill be watching this one. keep it updated

well before i decided to do the chop top i planned to redo the bodydrop to a stock floor. it is going to be half and half(4" trad. and 4"SF) should give me about 1.5" of head room.

as for the midget thing way to the other side 6'4". the top of the roof is the height of my belly bottom when i stand next to the truck

Re: My project s-10

ITS REALLY NOT THE BAD TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH. I HAVE HONDA BUCKETS THAT FIT VERY NICELY. GETS ME ABOUT AN 1.5" OF HEADROOM. NOT A LOT BUT BEING THIS TALL IT IS NOTHING NEW TO ME.

WELL THAT WAS ONE OF THE REASON BUT THE BIGGEST WAS JUST WANTING TO BE A LITTLE DIFFERENT THAN ALL THE REST.

Re: My project s-10

Looks sick. I'm in the process of a 4" body drop thinking about doing a cop top there is still room. But it looks like a lot of work to keep the stock glass. I would love to do half doors / no window frame.

Re: My project s-10

You know I saw you post the pics in the bodydropping it roster and I was looking for maybe a build thread and here it is. Looks great. I don't like the fact that you went beyond the door (just doesn't do it for me, to the doors is too far haha) But the work looks clean and seems as if everything is turning out sick. I have wanted to chop my top since I bagged my truck haha. I would love if you could post up a few more pics especially of the roof. But I love the truck I love to see crazy ass builds like this. It motivates me to work on mine

Re: My project s-10

And one more thing how about an up close pic of how you braced the doors. I see you didnt fill in the lower big rectangular hole. Any sag? I still havent braced mine and I didn't want to cover that hole. What size metal did you use? Thanks

no there is no sag in the doors at all. also remember that i took out a lot of the weight in the door after cutting the bottom off and doing the chop. i use a piece of 18ga. metal about 12" wide. i welded in the mounts to the door then added the piece of 12" wide 18ga. over that. welded the to the 18ga. and complete weld all the way around that piece to the rest of the door. worked really well never had a problem with it yet.

as for the chop i really don't have any better picture of it then what i have shown. to brace it you have to make sure that nothing moves. so i just welded in some tubing, from front to back, left and right, and then added some to the floor to hold everything in place. nothing great just something to hold it. if you have Qs just ask i will try to help the best i can.

Re: My project s-10

I welded in an 1/8" plate about 18" long and 6" high on my doors. Might be over kill but they don't sag.

Have you tried out the Manual rack yet? I thought about doing that, what did it come out of?

it is out of a ford pinto, i got it from summit racing. yes and no just playing around with it in the shop. right now i trying to get is to stay in toe. when the truck is layed out it push the toe out really badly. so i have to figure that out before i try to drive with it, but i will get it to work right one way or the other

Yeah the biggest problem with a adjustable suspension. Your alignment is never going to be perfect. I'll keep watching and see how it turns out.

Yeah that is very true but i don't want it to move as much as it is. i have some idea that should limit the toe movement i hope.

yes all of the glass is stock, except the back window. i had to cut that down to fit the new frame size.

if you look at the a-pillar on the door you have to pie cut it and then move it down till the side window gap is fulled up. then just full in the gap with new sheet metal.

<----- confused

i dont understand how you can keep the stock door glass and be able to roll it all the way up. if you leaned the pillars back, you would have to match it with the doors... in that case the windows wont fit anymore.... im lost on that one

ok let me see if i can explain is right. like you said you lean the a-pillars back to meant the roof at the new height. this lowers your side windows also. if you roll them up to meant the new height the top of the window still fits because you didn't shorten the top of the from, but the bottom (by the mirrors) is to long. so you have to cut the a-pillar up the length of it about and 1" up from the weather seal. then you bend that down peice down till your window fit right again. you should have what look like a pie cut(nothing at the top gap at the bottom) when it is in place. then you just fill in the gap then is it done.

Re: My project s-10

ohhhh, okay, by the pics and the explination, that helps. so the section of the doors, above the mirrors, there is more surface area above the mirrors, and as the door goes up around the window, it becomes less and less, until its factory again. then when you roll the windows up, all the way up now becomes (at the motor and arm) like 2 inches lower.

good call. i like it man!

i never knew that about a chop like that. good work to the both of you guys.

im def impressed!

Re: My project s-10

yeah it is a pain in the ass but easy then having glass cut or try to make a new window for it. plus i think it looks a lot better than the old stile. but that is my opinion.

Re: My project s-10

well its Friday time for an update!

after the 8" bodydrop and the 2.25 chop top the truck looked way too long.

so i decided to section the bed

i took a total of 5" out of it. 3" from in front of the wheel-well and 2" from behind

lay out

cut

front tack back together

all done

glad i did this make the truck look a lot better.
