Drain / Shrader valve question..

Alright, well i have a 5gallon tank which is mounted in my bed and has a 1/2" port on the bottom that is currently plugged. I need to turn it into a drain so i can drain my tank. I was going to get a drain cock, but i think after the drain cock and a reducer fitting that it would be too long, the bottom of my tank is only an inch or so off the top the bottom of my bed. So i was thinking that i could just get a 90 degree angle fitting and then on the end of that put a shrader valve to use as a drain and for safety to fill my tank if my compressor ever goes out. Would the shrader valve at a 90 degree angle be a good enough drain for the tank? Let me know what you guys think.. thanks!

should work like a charm. the pressure of the tank will help evacuate the water when u press the end of the shrader valve.

yea.. if you are set on putting a shrader valve on it.. there is a little tool so you can unscrew the inner thingy and it would be wide open.. so water would come out... ur call tho.. i'll stick to my drain

put a drain on it. most drain valves screw up towards the tank when you go to drain them so that shoulnt be a problem. and you do not want to be pulling the center piece out of a schrader valve with a tank full of air you might be sorry. you would be surprised how fast that psi of air travels out of a hole that small.

run a 1/2 pipe from the bottom of the tank threw the bottom of the bed and put a ball valve on ,dont even mess with a drain cock the rust ot break easy.
thats a good idea as long as you put it some where you can reach when the truck is down. cause when you let the air out of the tank it itll drop. And the schrader valve is good in an emergency, but you should be draining the tank when it is full of air so it pushes all of the water out, but thats not written in stone it just makes it easier and faster. But if he lives somewhere that there is a chance of freezing the emergency fill should not be in the bottom just in case because any little bit will freeze ity shut and itll be useless.

I had a tank like the one FBI sells and had a schrader on the bottom port pointing down. I loved having the backup way to air up the tank if necessary. When I drained the water I layed the truck out and pushed the valve in and rusty water went all over me. It got most all the water out because of the air pressure. The part that I didn't like is that the valve got clogged up and would stick open and I would end up emptying the whole tank.

This is how mine is set up,,,, I have a ball drain, then it has a cable on it that you can hook up to the inside of your bed or whereever, and you pull the cable and Pssssttt, air comes out the bottom of your tank,, also water which is forced out..
But,, I got a 50 lbs solenoid, SO, I'm hooking up the solenoind to a switch in my console and running the cable from the ball drain to the solenoid, tight. Then from inside my cab I can press the button and the solenoid opens the drain for me a couple of times, no need to get out, then you can do it whenever, no water in Tank!

ok same idia as everyone but,

do the 90 with a ball valve but at the end of the ball valve put a male quick disconnect for air. it will let the watter drain no prob but will still alow you to add air to your system no prob ;)

Thats a good idea but to be a little more specific you would need the male end on the tank side.

Alright, well i went ahead and ordered a 90 degree fitting, recuder fitting, and a drain cock from y2k xtreme... a grand total of like $7.. I also ordered a reducer fitting and shrader valve from a different place so i can put it another open port on the tank as a backup filler port... thanks guys

Thats exactly how mine is, you can also use as a sissy version of your giganto gun just get some airline hook it up slide something in there (8 gauge wire) and open the ball valve and buh bye.
