Ok so I ran across the newer model S10 truck on a forum.Didnt know if this has been posted in the american S10 forums yet or not? Brazil still makes S10's , Yes They still make them and best of all they have a 4 cyl 2.8 deisel engine option for them. I couldnt beleive me eyes here when I seen this!!! I guess us Americans are not worthy of this? I would sooo love to own a truck like this right about now. Check out the photo's for yourself in the link below, it's legit.

I have yet to hear of an american made model S10 with a factory deisel motor in it, please correct me if im wrong here?

kinda funny how the door panels look more like a 94-97 version.

I'd want one though..

Looks like the door panels, console, and side mirrors are all from 94-97. The gauge cluster is pretty sweet.

The whole point behind posting this was the fact that they make a diesel 4 cyl. for the S10(wasnt aware of this till now), only problem is you have to find the truck in brizillian territory. :-(. Right now with gas prices going through the roof, It would be nice to own a diesel in one of these trucks, Mix ya up batches of bio deisel (ehh maybe 70 cents to 1.50 average per gallon) and not have to go to the bank everytime you need to fill up your truck asking them for a loan. Yes the link is old, however im just curious as to why chevy only offered a deisel in the 94 95 S10's ( I believe this is what i have heard, not 100% though, Isuzu diesel?) yet they offer this out of the country and not to USA???? Im guessing tougher emission laws there? I dont know, but it would be super nice to own one of these right now.

Tutus get about 26-27 stock. Ive seen some get 28+ on their reg cab shortbeds stock. Mines an Ext cab and I get 28mpg consistently, loaded with equipment. Only mods are a magnaflow CAT and WAI and Synthetic oil. Nothing fancy and the air intake is stock minus the box, replaced with cone filter.

My 88 2.5 got 30+ mpg stock...

USA dont build cheap. See Labor Unions :haha:

i wonder how many people would actually buy a 4cyl diesel. as long as it is bigger than 2.0l ill take it. can i have one with a turbo too?!?!?!?

I don't know what size these engines are but I'd say their all turboed but could be wrong. The one pictured above is. I'd like to have a diesel in my 2 wheel drive just because it would be different. As for the Brazilian body style, they can throw that out the door for me.

I have a 99 s10 with a 2.2 in it as my daily driver, but my farm truck is a 2002.5 f350 single cab long box dually with a 7.3l powerstroke, i love the diesel and i have done alot to the truck, 2" leveling kit, 190hp injectors, edge juice programer, compound turbos... ect, I was looking at selling my s10 awhile back and just driving the diesel, until I started looking around for an s10 with a diesel in it, in the 70's chevy put a 2.2l isuzu diesel in their Chevy Love, and if I remember correctly they did it in early 80's s10's, so I started looking for one, I found an Isuzu pup with the 2.2 in it, it came with 2 engines and everything I needed to wire it up, I am planning on putting it in my truck and hot rodding it, but I would sell it for the right price if someone is interested

Yes, but only during the '83-'85-m/y's was it offered. They were fully mechanical & naturally-asperated. If you're able to build one, more power to you.

Meanwhile, south of the border, they've been making 2.8L TD S-trucks as far back as '97... from what I've read in Diesel Power Magazine. Ticks ya off, don't it? All because they don't have money for fuel like we do, or the emissions or safety laws like ours.

I'd go there, buy one, take the engine out, put it in my S10, and scrap the rest of it. Maybe keep that new dash cluster, but otherwise, it looks too, foreign to me.

Did you guys notice it's a manual, too?

Like I said: They don't have the money for fuel like we do, so the diesel is very popular there... along with the Flex-fuel Family-I (Euro) Ecotec. Why? They have ethanol dirt-cheap down there! And the more work that can be done per gallon, especially when you see what on-average fuel costs are down there, more likely you are to see manuals choosen over automatics. Especially in a country with that poor for an economy & world-market offering.

So, in-short: They can't afford alot for fuel, and manuals use less fuel to operate than automatics, sooooo....

Also another note, diesel once was cheaper than gas, but for some odd reason is now more expensive than gas (go figure) so even though a diesel will or should last longer than a gasoline motor,, it isnt gonna save you any money on the fuel..... You just cant win anymore. Which brings me to my next discovery i seen for sale in illinois listing the other day,, it is an electric s10.... learn something new each year.lol i think the dude is wanting like 20 or 30,000 for it...

Okay, one thing you need to consider: Buying a diesel-powered vehicle is a long-term decision... Much like buying a house. Same goes with any "alternate" energy source for transportation-power. God knows if we could make nuclear safe, even for rail-power, we'd have that too!

Anyway... You can't go with something as big in initial-cost for short-term. And in countries where there just isn't that much money on-average, it really is like buying a house! So that which will give good fuel-economy with the best cost over long-term ownership--the least amount of maintenance & repair-service needed--tends to be top-choice.
