Anyone had any luck finding rear fender flares for the ZR2s? I can find front ones no problem, but no one seems to carry the rears. I already put an ad in the classifieds section, but was hoping someone on this forum would know.

FYI Chevy wants $380 apiece for the rear flares.

Do you own a Zr2?

If not, your better off getting some after market ones. The fender flares are not a direct bolt in and are a pain to get on.
Thanks 86MCSS.............if he don't own a ZR it's going to be bitch to make them fit

AmosM823, thanks for the link. I checked it, and they have the part. Unfortunately, they want just as much as Chevrolet once shipping is included. I'm going to scour the junkyards for a while. If nothing comes up, then I'll bite the bullet and buy one through my friend's dad with his shop discount... it'll still be $300. Sheesh!

what side rear flare do you need? theres a yard here that has a 96 or 97 zr2 and i could check on condition and price. i was going to buy the flares for my truck but decided i didnt care for them all that much plus the work of swapping fenders and cutting up my bedsides to fit them. let me know thru pm if you wnat to.

Does anyone know how the flares are attached to the truck? I would like to take mine off to fix a rust spot, but when I go to take the nuts off, the bols just break right off, are those bolts/studs replacable? or will it make the flare useless?

Will the bolts breaking off make the flare useless? Well, that all depends on how good you are at fabrication. ;)
The flare is set up with a metal ring all around the wheel opening. The bolts you are breaking off are inserted through that ring. As soon as you break that ring, you lose the major clamping source for the flare, and you also create the possibility that the broken ring will wear away paint and create a nice rust spot underneath the flare.
Of course, you may only have broken the bolt. I wouldn't consider that a blessing though, because the flare can now flap against the side of the truck (even if you can't hear it) and wear off the paint.

Two suggestions at this point:
~Leave it alone and trust to providence.
~Finish taking the flare off and prepare to do some work on the metal ring (or hopefully just replace the broken bolts). Don't forget about the screws on the inside of the flare if you decide to take it off.

Good luck.

I think that helps me. It was only the bolts that broke because they just twisted apart right below the nut. Is it possible to take the metal ring off and attach new bolts/studs to it? or is that out of the question. I would really like to fix that rust spot the right way, and take the flare off, but I definetly don't want to break the flare while doing it

you can just drill the bolts out and go get some bolts at a hard wear store or call lmc truck or gm and get them if your gonna buy new flares dont call lmc truck because they charge you more from them then the dealer does

rather than spending $300 for just one flare, why not buy a brand new custom set for around $500 and have room for larger tires without the need of added lift? give the guys at Diversified Creations - Home a call. Ask for Mike. He used to have a ZR2 with a SAS and an LS1 in it. It was featured in Peterson's magazine. He makes a custom set of fender flares for the ZR2 that not only look better than the stock flares IMO but add alot more clearance to the fenderwells. There are actually a couple of guys on ZR2usa.com that have tucked 33" tires on a stock Z with no lift and just Mike's flares and some creative trimming. There are excellent write-ups on this on ZR2usa.com as well if it is something you are interested in.

And if you do that, sell me your stock driver's side front flare for cheap. mine has a small piece missing and, if i can find one on the cheap, i will replace it before getting them rhino lined. so sell it to me cheap and recoup some of your money from the new flares...LOL

Best idea I heard yet. If I do it, then the stock flares will be for sale. Stay tuned, I'll be back in one bat minute... or maybe in a month or so.

hi-i've had the same problem trying to find a rear driversside flare for my 2002 blazer ZR2 $$$$ouch$$$! If you do upgrade to a new set, I'd be interested in your "good" flare.
Thanks! (I will also let you know if I find another source)

if you decide to go with Mike's flares, do me a favor and shoot me a PM letting me know how much you would like for your stock driver's side front flare. I don't check the forums all that often and wouldn't want to miss out. Thanks!

I am looking for replacement fender flare pieces. I have a damaged front fender flare (just the lower part attached to the bumper) and I am trying to find part alternatives to going to the dealer. Since the ZR2's were produced in smaller quantities it is tough to find them in salvage yards.

what you are looking for is commonly known as the flarette. try talking to some of the guys over at ZR2usa.com. Alot of them have removed their flarette's and might have them laying around and be willing to part with them.

CRAP! This thread just reminded me.

I was at Harry's in Hazleton PA yesterday and saw a ZR2 with three good flairs on it (pass front was broken), and totally forgot to go back and grab them. I bet they would have been only about $8 each or so.

Anyone near Hazleton in need of ZR2 flairs, as of yesterday at noon there were three good ones there. lol
