yes i've read all the threads and that one article about how to swap. i have a good grasp on the whole thing. i just have a few questions and might run into some more on the way. in taking off the timing chain cover i need to remove the crank pulley and i believe thats a harmonic balancer behind it? do i re-use them or use the pulley from my 2.8L??
thanks. dave

i think they are the same. i'm re-using the one off the 3.1L for my 3.1L rebuild. i know the balancer is the same. even if the pulley is different it's only 4 bolts. if it's different just take the one off your 2.8L when the time comes.

where do you want the power to be? low end or high end?

i would advise using a 4.3TBI and boring the intake to match. Those 2.8l bores are going to choke the full potental out of that 3.4 especially if you put a bigger cam in it.

You're using the Edelbrock Performer Manifold with the TBI adapter? How cool! How well does it work? I would think since you have the 4.3 injectors in the 2.8 throttle body, it oughta run pretty damn good like that. I can't see how changing the throttle body to a 4.3 one would make any difference since you have the 4.3 injectors on the 2.8 throttle body anyway. I think a cam would certainly help. My truck has Holley 390 cfm carb on the same intake, and it has a LOT of low end power, but seem to be struggling a bit in the higher RPMs. But hey, you're going 3.4 crate? or camaro? The crate already has a hot cam in it. Better deal too by the time you figure effort in tearing everything off of your old motor and getting super greasy. J:)

You don't have the intake and stuff on the current motor?

not the edlebrock intake or headers, no. i bought them just for the 3.4. the only thing i wanna do now is get a cam for it, but i'm not sure what to go with cause i know nothing about lift, duration and all those cam specs. i understand the rpm range kinda, but thats about it.

the TBI bores are smaller on the 2.8l tbi than on the 4.3L TBI. Like i said it will be a bottle neck especially with the eldbrock intake. the flange should be the same, the bores are whats main difference between the 4.3 TBI and 2.8LTBI. Just make sure the TBI has the correct TPS and airfilter screw. my previous Vehicle was a blazer with a camaro 3.4L

The Edelbrock and Crane 260 are pretty similar cams. But the Crane takes the win with a tad more exhaust duration and more lift on both lobes. Unless the Edelbrock one was alot cheeper I would pick up the Crane cam.
thanks for the help. i guess my choice now is between the crane 260 and 272. i had found a deal on the 272, but i'm wonderin if thats too much for a daily driver.

i understand what you are saying. i guess i will look into a 4.3tbi to see if the flange is the same. it wouldn't make much sense to put 4.3 injectors into a 2.8tbi if the flanges are the same, esp. since i'm using an edlebrock intake, not the stock one.

The Throttle bodies are exactly the same but the bores are bigger. However with your edelbrock intake you will ned a TBI to Carb adaptor plate.
thanks. i realize i need the adapter plate, but its good to know they bolt on the same.

the 4.3 TB will need to be drilled since you will have one less vaccum port then you did on your 2.8TB.
did you happen to do this. is a cordless drill ok to use or must it be done with a mill?? does this hole get tapped for threads then too??

i did not do it, but I know it needs to be done. You don't have to drill the hoile you can just put a T on a vaccum port on the other side of the TB. if you do drill the hole you will need to use a small piece of pipe, and drill a hole into the throttle body and then use some epoxy on the pipe and put it into the hole then you can hook your vaccum hose to it.
