My truck had a glimmer of this issue before the winter and now its in full gear. I found the battery dead after sitting all winter and jumped the truck it was fine it held the charge the whole bit . I let it sit a few weeks and it was dead again I jumped it it was running fine but the digital odometer reading was gone and the check engine and abs light were off as well as the regular brake all of which have been on because i have been doing work to it with the e-brake cable the abs sensors and it has an exhaust leak. This time however it didn't hold the charge at all as soon as its off its dead and aside from probably needing a battery i Have no headlights , the highbeams flash on for a second then die off i have no odometer ever no check engine brake or abs or airbag lights. the radio is dead and so is the fan for the HVAC. I am thinking a ground somewhere but not sure if anyone else has had a problem like this before. Can the battery actually be the culprit?

yea bad batteries do weird shit... and next time you let it sit more than a few days disconnect one of the terminals, then you wont have a dead battery every time.

it probably does need a battery for sure it was old when i got the truck and then wnter hit and it was buried under 3 feet of snow for a few months. next time i will definetly put a cut off switch on the ground for long sittings. Thanks for the tip i will be going under the hood this coming week during my staycation.

I haven't gotten a battery yet but today i was just checking out the main ground off the battery and it runs to the back of the engine and down i'm confused i thought it run under the alternator to the block near the front? I will get in there tomorrow to see where its heading it looks like it was grounding on a tube near the side of the engine as well.
