Well, i'm taking my 02 Sonoma into the dealership on Thursday for an oil leak(rear main seal), and i'm going to have them check out some other things also. So, I had to Un-install my HPP3 program, and now I see why I spent the $315. Man, the shifting really sucks, I think its worse then before I programed it a few months ago, it slips really bad going into 2nd, unless I hold it in first and build the pressure up. It also doesn't have that good mid-range pull, it just feels like SH!T !!!!!

I'm thinking about having them check the trans out, I have felt since day one that it wasn't right, when coming up to a light and its almost stopped, if you go to take off it revs real high and doesn't move sometimes.

I'll be putting the HPP3 back to the setting I had before.

Oh shit thats not good. Better put a reman in that under warrenty while you still under 36k. If I got a Hypertech, I would only use the trans settings at the track, I dont really like a hard shift.

The hard shift only really feels good when you're beating on your truck... any time you are driving casually it's kind of annoying. When I reprogram for the smaller tires I'm going to take out the shift firmness...

actually I really like a firm shift
I have a built 700r4 in my truck now and the 1-2 is HARD I LOVE IT it will break loose almost every time on the 1-2 shift even at light throttle situations it will still chirp
its sooo coool with my flowmaster 40 and no cat and the tranny chirpin into 2nd ALL the time I get the "hey you got a V8 in that thing question all the time"

gezz !!!!, Go Boommmm....HAHAHA...let me see, I only have 21,000 miles. Looks like GM will be dishing out a new tranny, then i'm going to try to get the tech to install the corvette servo before he puts it in. There is some advantages to working at a GMC dealer.....LMAO

Thanks for the inputs

I talked to some of the F-Body guys and they say the trans stuff with the HPP is no good...Once u take it off ur tranns is **** it will slip bad and go BOOM...
I've only had it in for about 300 miles... I'm going to take it out before it does any (more) damage.

If I can get my dealer to replace the trans, and get them to put the corvette servo in it, I will not use the HHP3 to adjust my trans again, i'll just use the other options.

People feel a firm shift and think oh thats shifting really nice. They dont realize the clutches and everything in the tranny are going BANG BANG BANG lol.

I did it because Hypertech makes it sound like a good thing. A couple of weeks of that and I had enough. Just took it out and went for a ride... I miss the smooth shifts. Most of my driving is slower commuting so the firm shift felt like when you drive stick and don't give it any gas after you shift... just let out the clutch... bang, here is your next gear... That was my first clue that it was a bad thing... just seemed too brutal of a shift. The longer I have the Hypertech (about three weeks) the more I think it was a waste of money...

I dont post here much, but can tell you its not the hypertech. I've had 4 s-10's (well 3 and a blazer) and of those 3 were 4.3/auto's (96 SS, 97 Blazer and 02 ZQ8) My trans has slipped like that on every one of them, and I've heard it on other trucks too. I've brought 2 of the 3 in, and never been able to duplicate it. Whatever causes it, its not the HPP, because I only used it on the blazer.

Hard shifting is not bad on the clutches, in fact it's good for them..Why? You ask? Because there is less friction on the clutches... If your tranny is slipping you have banding issues which have nothing to do with a shift improver/hppIII... The 4l60e is run on mostly servos, all youre doing on the 4l60e's is increasing the amount of time the servo's are engauged and causing fluid pressure time.... You're libel to wear out a u joint than your clutches with a shift improver....Don't believe me? Talk to any reputible tranny shop (please exclude cottman transmission or most chains, talk to guys that specialize in doing race trannies)

rlith is right...a hard shift is easier on your clutches. Stock, the transmission will slip the clutches to provide a smooth shift which is easier on the drive train. A firm shift is harder on your u-joint and rear end. The advantages of an automatic transmission are convenience and less drivetrain shock...assuming it's stock. So with a shift improver or HPP3, you're not being any harder on the drivetrain than a 5-speed is.

all i have to say is that tranny doesn't stand up no matter what you're doing to it.. my friend is on his 3rd 700r4 on his 4.3

I don't know...I had a 91 Firebird with the 305 and a 700r4. It had 140k on it and the tranny was fine. I also had an 86 Firebird that had 207k and it was starting to go.
