suprise, e-fan problems

i purchased the flx60 efan for my blazer and wired it up. when i turn the ignition off the car stays on and so does the fan. i hafta disconnect the battery to get the car and fan to shut off. i have an msd ignition and am wondering if i possibly need to intall a diode somewhere. it almost seems like it creates a loop. if i dont hook up my ignition controlled wire and wait for the car to hit temp and then touch it to the battery it turns on, but still does not turn off when i turn the car off. any suggestion anyone could give me would be great. unless its telling me im a moron and to put the stock fan back on.

your a moron, put the stocker back on:D j/k

if im reading this right you turn the key off and the motor is still running ?

how did you wire the fan? to the ignition switch?

if so i think it created a ground loop , i think the ignition pulses a ground to start so if the fan is always grounded the ignition stays on?

i dunno

yup u read it right. i wired it to the fuse box. i tested it with a 12v test light to make sure its hot when the ignition is on and not when its off. i've tried a few other wires as well. i also tried hooking it straight to the battery so when i turn the car off it should run til temp. goes down, but it never turns off. just kills the battery. the only thing i can think of is the control box might have some type of problem. or me...who knows at this point

yeah that makes two of us. if i dont hook that ignition wire up and i touch it to the battery when it reaches temp, it'll turn on. but it'll stay on when i turn the car off and i hafta pull the fuse(this scenario the car will shut off when i turn the key back). if i hook it up to the battery i hafta unhook the positive side so the car and fan will turn off. cause when i turn ignition off and pull they key. the damn thing is still runnin. cant understand it. the only thing i can think of is that there may need to be some type of diode inline somewhere since the msd is hooked to the battery and so is the fan. it may be creating some type of loop, or the control box on the fan may be bad.

I had the same prob for a bit. I found the manaul swt would keep the ride running if I turned it on.
I pulled the manual terminal wire going to the control box and left it disconnected, now all works
fine. It was pretty weird. Hit the fan swt on the dash and my ck eng lite and all the gauge ck lites
would come on..

1st, don't wire the damn thing to the fuse box.... Use a relay, and wire the fan power directly to the batrtery. Wire the thermo switch via a relay to the windshield wiper motor harness. That will prevent any future problems and it will be done right. Use this diagram...

thanks for the help everyone. i followed rlith's schematic and it operates the way it should. kinda lame because i bought the flx60 fan to kinda bypass having to do all that. i coulda just got a junkyard fan and saved $.
Did you get the flexalite relay with it???
