mine's a 98 gmc sonoma.i see where the 03 4.3 uses a roller fulcrum rocker, what would be needed to run these on my setup?would a set of roller tipped be better, cost less, easier to do.the 03 setup seems like it could be an easy swap to do

o'kay so i see where the stock rocker tip is grooved for self aligning,i see where slp use to make a bolt on version, but no longer does?comp #1417-12 i take it is not self aligning.so it looks like----new studs, new guide plates, new pushrods for the guide plates, and new rocker arms or is there a simpler answer?
correction the 1417-12 is self aligning as are the 1418-12.this truck runs around 2000 to 2500 rpm for long extended amounts of time and has a full magnaflow manifold back with 2 1/12" mandrel bent exhaust from the y back.
I don't think it's worth it either way. Roller tip gains nothing, roller fulcrum maybe a little but you won't notice.
I'd either go with a full roller (which should bolt on to your heads) or a junkyard set of stock roller fulcrum (which I'm pretty sure won't work without conversion studs).
I have an '02 with roller fulcrum. Never really built a 4.3 but I might assume your rocker studs are pressed in like a small block? If so you'd have to remove the heads to have them drilled for screw in studs.
Seems like a huge pain in the ass and way more money than the maybe 0-5hp gain you're going to get from the swap.
read that during my other posts.mine has the 10mm screw in studs but i thought i read they had 3/8 threads on the top,yet the article above says 10mm all the way and retapping to 7/16 isn't something i want to do.i was under the impression that the 03 rockers aren't self aligning?melling sells them but the pic isn't good enough to see and i really would rather have the 1.6,as a side note this truck will run 3500-3800 pulling a trailer up hill with the ac on,figured the 1.6's would make some improvement in that area
so arp makes the studs to get the 3/8 top part with a 10mm threaded bottom, comp has the 1.6 self aligning roller tip rockers, and yet i wouldn't notice any increase in the 3000 to 4000 rpm range?seems hard to believe
You can try it and see. I've swapped to full roller rockers, different ratios, etc, on different engines and never noticed a difference in power. In theory a full roller rocker arm should have less friction and be easier on the valve guides.
Probably easier to aquire some 2000-up heads,
along with the rockers
Might be some small gains to be had, but
sometimes nothing at all is the result.
Every combo seemingly reacts different to them.
They do make self-aligning 1.6 stamped rockers.
Just check for pushrod clearance with the head.
