Im seriously thinking of buying a 94 2dr blazer from my uncle for a great price. Main problem is the windshield is cracked all the way across at bottom. It wont pass state inspection like that, and I know where I can get a good windshield from my buddy for cheap, but Ive never tried to remove or install a windshield. Ive torn down engines and axles, messed with bodywork and suspension a good bit but never worked on a windshield. Can it be done with regular handtools? I dont have any specialty windshield tools. Thanks in advance.

Okay, follow me on this. I had a car i was stripping for a demo. we wanted to save some of the glass for a car that we had a double of so we started on the windshield. we broke it pretty bad out of haste but we found a way to do it using a bicycle cable and stabing a hole through the tarry seal and (with vise grips on each end) pulling back and forth and going around the window till it was cut all around and pushing around the edges to get a knife in to slice the stuff that resealed. we successfully removed four side windows but i wanted to trash the windshield that wouldnt leave shards everywhere. Just a suggestion. i dont know if you want to do it on a good windshield first. practice on something first.
