Hey guys, I installed 4 inch blocks a while back and today I noticed the plate that sits on top of the block that the rear end cradles in is rusted pretty bad. I can't remember, is the hole the block pin goes in to in the rear end itself of just in that plate? Do I need that plate? I don't want to let it rot out if the plate is going to break and send my rear end tracking all over the place and kill me! My truck is a first gen. I am tired as hell right now, so my description is pretty lame. Thanks for any help.

I assume you are talking about the spring perch that is welded to the axle itself? If it is rusting that bad then you'll need to cut it off and weld a new one in it's place. It'll have to be welded in at the same angle and everything as the stock one or else it will change your pinion angle.

Shit. That has "going to piss me off" written all over it. Any idea where I can get new ones other than going to a junk yard and taking a f----ing rear end.

Is is rusting like it has cancer and there are holes all through it? Or is it just a lot of surface rust? If it is just a lot of surface rust and your really worried about it...loosen everything up...clean it real good with a wire wheel or something...paint the shite out it and put it back together.

I'd take a sandblaster to it and get all the rust off of it, then see how much of the plate you got left. If the rust isn't bad then paint it like general said and be done with it. If it's so rusted that it looks as if the integrity of the plate is weakened then I'd go to a junkyard, cut them off a rearend, and weld them on your's.
