OK, so my oil pressure gauge keeps jumping from 40psi to 0... when it hits zero theres a high ticking sound... I was thinking it may be the oil pump, but then reading around I was hinted too the oil pressure sending unit... or switch, or they're both the same thing (someone said)... and now I dont really know whats going on anymore. Not a machanic, so, help?

Thanks a ton!

when the guage goes to zero if your motor starts ticking than you have more issues than a sensor.

first thing i would due is change the oil and filter. I have had bad filters cause low oil pressure issues.

how many miles? you may have a dist issue since the dist drives the oil pump.

It has just over 90k miles. A little more info: When it hits zero, if I rev the engine typicaly it starts to climb again, I could be wrong but it seems that the pressure likes to drop more often on turns, like on/off ramps and the like. Other then this issue the trucks given me almost no problems, i've had to replace the thermostat cause it was sticking and I had an evap leak, and the fuel pump died. I've fixed them all my self.

sometimes it can be something simple, had a guy say the same thing....his oil was super low... i know you probably would have checked it but still throwing it out there.

sneding unit is the switch its cylindrical and round and electric, and if its 4.3L then its located right near the distributor way in back in a tight spot almost sort of,, orange wire, gray wire and i think a black or white wire. 3 wires total.

it sends a signal to the guage and also fuel pump power runs through it(orange and gray wires, third wire will be guage sender wire)

sometimes the sender goes bad and is innacurate, especially if old or high mileage

mine is pegged out at 80 when engine is running

i dont worry about it though
its pretty rare to have an accurate oil pressure reading in these trucks especially the first gens, and any old trucks too. also the 80s F body cars and so on. may have moved or loosened the pickup tube if dented up far enough to move the tube,,

the engine ticking might be something though

try another oil filter, it may have stuck relief valve.,

is bottom of oil pan where the pump pickup screen part is located dented upwards any? if so it may be causing oil pump starvation

my 99 blazer only has one wire going to it. It does not have 3. I just replaced it when i did the intake gaskets.

HAve we checked the oil level. if its low than thats your problem.

Hook a mechanical guage to it and see what it says. then there is no guessing on what is wrong. It will be narrowed down to electrical or mechanical.

Change the oil and filter too.
