I have a slot ported box and am getting ready to order new subs, I was thinking about cuting down the interior volume of the box, mounting the subs on the outside and firing them down into it. If you have done this, how does it turn out? Thanks...

well these are the subs I wanna get, I just think it's a shame to hide all that chrome..Plus I wanna make some partitions in my sub box and put my 6 by 9's into the sides.Punk0Rama said:you're a joke.
it will sound the exact same. although audioholic makes a good point on motor noise, i know that in installs i've done inverted, the music is never low enough to hear any noticeable motor noise. sounds the exact same. plus i think it looks really good. why not show off that sexy xlb^2 motor![]()
Is there any way we can talk you out of....well.... all of that? Bahns for the chrome factor? 6x9's in your sub enclosure? Duuuuuuuuuude!projo198 said:
not just 6x9's, but 6x9's in the sides of the box! you must be loco homes. best thing i can say is try it out and see how you like it. i would never do it myself, have seen and heard it doesn't sound good in my opinion. but the best way to learn is trial and error.audioholic said:Is there any way we can talk you out of....well.... all of that? I Think What They are Referring To Is The Poor SoundStage that 6x9's behind And Aimed To the Side Would Create. 6x9's are Crappy Speakers to Begin with And Your Sound Stage will be Much Worse if They Are Behind You and Even Worse if They Are Directed to the Sides.projo198 said:Well, let me elaborate. I will be making PARTITIONS for the 6 by 9's, so they will be like a box inside of a box. Duh, they would blow otherwise! I am already running 6 by 9's and I like them. Also, whats wrong with the Audiobahns? I'm running Kenwood Excelons now, and these will be much higher RMS. Any help?
Is this phase thing true? becuase if it is i have a phase knob on my hifonics amp and if i jsut swith it will that be alright?antilies said:the other thing to remember is that the sub will now be 180 degrees out of phase. to fix it reverse + and - on the sub or amp, but NOT both.
everything said here is valid except that 6x9's are crappy, you can gen a nice set of 3 ways for the rear of a blazer and sound nice. I had polks that sounded flawless...RachPunk said:I Think What They are Referring To Is The Poor SoundStage that 6x9's behind And Aimed To the Side Would Create. 6x9's are Crappy Speakers to Begin with And Your Sound Stage will be Much Worse if They Are Behind You and Even Worse if They Are Directed to the Sides.
Audiobahn Usually has Overrated RMS Wattage and Poor Sq. Never Met an Audiobahn i liked Although I don't Mind Their Amps As Much.
yeah, lucky to have one of those, most amps dont and you have to do it manuallykuhndog56 said:Is this phase thing true? becuase if it is i have a phase knob on my hifonics amp and if i jsut swith it will that be alright?
6x9's are crappy speakers. they distort and become damaged easily and have poor bass reproduction.rordway1 said:everything said here is valid except that 6x9's are crappy, you can gen a nice set of 3 ways for the rear of a blazer and sound nice. I had polks that sounded flawless...
