I have a slot ported box and am getting ready to order new subs, I was thinking about cuting down the interior volume of the box, mounting the subs on the outside and firing them down into it. If you have done this, how does it turn out? Thanks...

The sub will basically operate the same other than the change in enclosure volume, which make no mistake, still isnt alot. The only other consideration is motor noise, as the speaker's motor structure will now be exposed rather than sealed inside the enclosure. 'Motor noise' is possible to hear in some situations, especially when the sub is mounted very close to the listener, like inverting a sub in a regular cab between the bucket seats. Motor noise would likely be audible in that situation, but in a trunk or further away from the listener its much less likely.

you're a joke.

it will sound the exact same. although audioholic makes a good point on motor noise, i know that in installs i've done inverted, the music is never low enough to hear any noticeable motor noise. sounds the exact same. plus i think it looks really good. why not show off that sexy xlb^2 motor :p

well these are the subs I wanna get, I just think it's a shame to hide all that chrome..Plus I wanna make some partitions in my sub box and put my 6 by 9's into the sides.

not just 6x9's, but 6x9's in the sides of the box! you must be loco homes. best thing i can say is try it out and see how you like it. i would never do it myself, have seen and heard it doesn't sound good in my opinion. but the best way to learn is trial and error.

Well, let me elaborate. I will be making PARTITIONS for the 6 by 9's, so they will be like a box inside of a box. Duh, they would blow otherwise! I am already running 6 by 9's and I like them. Also, whats wrong with the Audiobahns? I'm running Kenwood Excelons now, and these will be much higher RMS. Any help?

I Think What They are Referring To Is The Poor SoundStage that 6x9's behind And Aimed To the Side Would Create. 6x9's are Crappy Speakers to Begin with And Your Sound Stage will be Much Worse if They Are Behind You and Even Worse if They Are Directed to the Sides.

Audiobahn Usually has Overrated RMS Wattage and Poor Sq. Never Met an Audiobahn i liked Although I don't Mind Their Amps As Much.

everything said here is valid except that 6x9's are crappy, you can gen a nice set of 3 ways for the rear of a blazer and sound nice. I had polks that sounded flawless...

6x9's shape comes from trying to fit them into the irregular spaces on a car. The ovel shape makes it easier to make a place inside a car's interior than would a round speaker with as much cone area. Think about it, most were meant for rear deacks, decks that are narrow but long. But, round cones are designed/used strictly for their strength. An oval cone will lose its shape and distort considerably sooner than a similar round coned speaker.
