ok sorry I reread my posting, I meant would the pan installed on the crate motor fit into an S10. Under the sticky "How to swap a Vortec 350 into a 4.3 S10/Sonoma" the poster stated an engine from a 2500 truck or above would not fit due to the oil pan. The pan would need to be switched to a pan meant for a 1500 truck.

Sorry for the confusion.

According to chevrolet.com the ht383 uses oil pan # 12557558. I found conflicting info on that number. paceperformance.com describes it:
"ZZ4 Oil Pan Kit
The oil pan included in this kit was used on most every 1986-2000 small block Chevy powered car or truck This pan is also used on all of the GM Performance Parts small block crate engines. This pan will fit most all chassis except early Chevy II and Vega/Monza. Capacity With a PF35 Filter is 5 Quarts. Pan is 7-1/4" deep. Fits all 1986 and newer 1 piece rear main seal blocks"

But it is also listed in the Gm parts book as the pan for:
"Chevrolet K2500 Pickup 2000 Base, LS 5.7L V8 - Gas
Chevrolet K3500 Pickup 2000 Base, LS 5.7L V8 - Gas"

I think the highlighted area could be a problem.
I haven't done a 2wd swap in ages. the last one I did was a 454 and the pan had a similar shape.
I ended up notching the crossmember.

FYI I just picked up a pan locally from someone parting out a 5.7 Vortec out of a 96 K1500 truck. The 4.3 to 350 Vortec swap sticky thread mentions a 1500 pan will work however does anyone know if there is any difference in the oil pans between the 2 or 4 wheel drive trucks?

The big trucks use the same pan 2 or 4wd. If you use the TransDapt mounts with the bolt through the bottom hole (ie motor lifted 1 inch) then any common c/k1500 pan will fit.... And most likely the pan on the ht383 crate motor will fit too... Every gmpp crate motor I have ever installed (at least 2 dozen at this point) has came with a c/k1500 pan or at least something that looked very similar. The swell ahead of the hump is close to the crossmember but does not touch.

Thanks everyone for the input... I'm leaning towards going with the pan I have from a 1500 truck. Despite what this thread says I've also decided to go with the Chevy Performance L31 5.7 Crate Motor P/N 12530283, for the extra cost really can't justify the HT383E. The 5.7 is listed as only applicable to the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks.... I assume this is because of the pan it comes with. I'm going to see if it will fit, if not I have the 1500 pan to fall back on.

Thanks again!
