1991 s10 2.5L, when the HVAC is set on defrost, it will blow heat, but if I set it to heater or to vent and it's turned as hot as it will go it's either cold air with a strong blast, or very low blast of warm air. It's not the heater core, what could it be? It's cold here, help me!

Thats odd because the blend air doors only direct which vents for the air to come out of. The heat lever just moves a door to direct air through the heater core or the evaperator core. have you felt the hosesgoing to the heater core to see if they both get hot? Does it get cold enough there to make the engine cold?

The engine takes forever to heat up, but it hasn't been cold enough here for the engine it self to get cold(been between 3-12 degrees, so no -#'s). If I drive to work the heat just starts to kick in, if it works at all(it's about a 15 min drive, with the heat cranked) I can drive for 30 minutes and it takes that long for the heater to start being hot enough I need to turn it from the highest fan setting to a lower setting. Theres no A/C if that makes a different. The thermostat was just replaced about 3 weeks ago, and this problem started shortly after that. Could it be a bad thermostat? wouldn't there be no heat if it was a bad t-stat? Which vaccum lines should I be checking?

If the air is blowing from the corect vents depending on where your switch is at then dont worry about vacuum lines.
I think if your temp gauge does not register and you are driving with cold air blowing it is not getting hot enough. The T-Stat may never open. The blower on high will only cool it off more. I am in California so I really do not know what its like to get freezing. Mid 50s' in the day and 30s' at night where I am.
But I do know what its like to over heat. An old trick is to turn the heater on with the fan blowing. It cools by using the heater core as anotrher radiator to cool the fluid. Thats why I think your fan and driving may be cooling the fluid.

Put a piece of card board in front of your radiator. Dont block it off completely. Just some of the air flow. Cut holes in it or just try to block half. Watch your temp gauge. It should allow you motor to warm up.

What temp t stat did you use? If your gauge does not move either your engine does not get hot enough or there is no anti freeze in the block to heat and register on the gauge!

2001 s10 4.3 4x4
in my truck i only have heat coming out of the dash. if i move my control in: defrost, feet or both it always blows only in the front. i find out by internet that it could be a vacuum line but i dont know how to look. i took apart my dash and look if i could hear air leek near the switch and the vacuum plug behind the gloove box but i dint notice nothing.
thx for helping!
