88 beater repair

its time i repaired the body damage on the beater,i picked up a parts truck to get my hands on somewhat straight body panels. if you remember the beater was wrecked last winter while on a parts run for the fullsize. heres what it looks like currently.

now heres the parts truck i picked up for $50,its pretty much junk. 2.5 4-spd has a blown head gasket and supposedly had a loud clunk in the drivetrain when being driven.

i soaked all the bolts for the fenders in PB blaster tonight so tommorrow i will start removing the fenders and core support.

my friends and i have a circle track for our quads and whatnot, well we had three guys buy only a mule and my quad,so i jumped in the beater and we all raced on the track. surprisingly my truck is faster in a circle in grass than an 07 mule, lol

Re: 88 beater repair

damn both those trucks are beat to hell and destroyed!

but no the vent thing before 90 isnt correct. only the base base base model trucks didnt have the dash vents. Hell my old 89 and 91 both had them, and the new 89 has defroster vents, dash vents, side window vents, a vent pointing at your crotch, and floor vents.

damn.. replacing dented rusted parts with a little less dented rusted parts.. i think i would have opted to spend a little more and got a nicer parts truck so its worth your time.

i'm not going for show quality and the beater isn't worth the money it would take to buy rust free panels. it has atleast three bad cab/bed mounts and i just repaired the huge hole in the frame that broke open when i hit the pole. your input is appreciated though

Re: 88 beater repair

yeah the parts truck has a sunroof, but it's missing the hinges. so its just a piece of glass with a latch and a seal. if it was complete i would put it in the beater but its not.

a 2.5 isn't any better and it uses more gas and makes your truck heavier not to mention all that computer crap adding even more weight.

Hell the parts truck looks a whole lot better.

the guy who sold it is an idiot. He could have gotten $125 in scrap for that.

ha,my s-10 weighs 2700lbs with a full tank of gas and me in it and it ran an 11 sec. pass on the local 1/8th mile course. the guy who sold it is a friend and its not technically his. it was his sons truck, his son owed him some money so he was told to sell the truck and put the money towards the money owed.

Re: 88 beater repair

my beater was free,my dad bought it new in 88 and gave it to me when i turned 16. the reason i keep it and keep fixing it is for sentimental reasons. when i was growing up this was our only transportation so its kind of a secret obsession.

edit: btw the brick is the parking brake, lol

yeah, the drivetrain is still bulletproof. took it to fort wayne(200mi one way) last year without issue along with multiple trips to indy(90mi one way) for work. i wouldn't hesitate to drive to cali in it right now.

Re: 88 beater repair

what is that cracked stuff on the hood? My 1st gen had that and I thought it was just bondo. (only a small crack on mine..)

do S10 hoods have a coating of some sort? it was too thick to be paint. my truck was an 88 if that matters.

damn tom, absolutely no love from the people that only see snow on TV or on skiing trips. . .though, i will say that those are both rougher than most beaters that i've ever seen. . .as if most of us aren't hard enough on our vehicles, we get INDOT helping us every winter by ****ing them up even more. . .

yeah, they're pretty beat up,i'm not so worried about the appearance as i am that everything works, when the beater was still in the wrecked condition everytime i left my po-dunk town i would get pulled over and given the breathlizer because all the cops thought i was drunk and had left the scene of an accident.

anyway,updates
new fender,just alittle crinkled

painted, some reason it has a shitty finish on the paint.

hood

hood halfway done

Re: 88 beater repair

Wow. That poor poor thing. Funny you mention driving it to Cali, I was gonna take mine out there but we couldn't fit everyone in it so we took my Cutlass. The tranny gave out 3/4 of the way but I KNOW the S-10 would've made it no problem. I hope it looks alot better when you're done with it. What do you use to fill the holes? lol

the whole thing here is to get it so it is functional, not pretty. the fiero is stalled waiting on parts from summit, pistons have been on backorder for two months now, when they show up at my door step progress will resume.
btw your a moron, hope you enjoy driving your stock cookie cutter truck.

lol i'm not worried about straightness, its a beater so the fact that its dependable is the only important thing,i would leave it alot but the whole getting pulled over all the time is getting old.

Re: 88 beater repair

Good luck when that thing falls apart going 90 down 70. Your hood is going to take out someones front windshield. A van with the clay city hookers in it.
I don't really see what makes my truck "stock".
I mean it doesn't have any rust holes, nor does it burn oil and have a gun rack in the window.
Mine also has clear coat where as yours doesn't. That must be custom.
If yours was bagged it would be WAY cooler.

hoods held on with bolts, therefore it will not come off. i know you don't know what a bolt is but try to keep up.
