Could the anti theft system be the problem?

I just bought a 1993 Gmc Jimmy. The only way I can get it to start is by hooking a grey wire on the firewall to the positive on the battery. When I do this the fuel pump starts. Could the anti theft system be causing this? If so how could I bypass it? Could it be something else? Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like the grey wire should be connected to a switched ignition source. You can extend that wire, bring it inside the cab (insulate it and protect it of course) and connect it to a fused ignition source or make your own fused ignition source off of the ignition switxh harness.

Hope this helps.

I wouldnt run it to the fusebox or tap it into an existing circuit because you could potentially draw more current than the rated fuse you are tapping into at the fusebox.

Youre best bet is bring the wire through the firewall into the cab under the drivers side dash. Find your heavy gauge ignition switch wiring coming from your key switch. Ignition is going to be pink. Connect your wire to this pink wire (make sure it is a switched ignition by verifying with a multimeter or computer safe test light and also that this ignition wire stays powered through the entire cranking process). Put an inline fuse approx 2-3" away from where you tapped into the ignition source and depending on how much current the fuel pump will draw will determine how big of a fuse youll want to put there.

done! That way every time you switch on the ignition this wire will be powered. And when you crank the truck it will continue to be powered. That is why you need a true ignition source that reads 12v in the ignition and start position of the key.
