The timing marks on my engine are just like the image attached: I am having trouble finding a diagram or book that references the proper 0degree mark on timing marks that look like they do on my truck. Take a look at the image please and let me know if I have the degrees properly referenced for timing to 0 degrees.

yep many or most 4,3L balancers have two identical lines on them so watch ouy for that

almost positive the second one around clockwise around it is the TDC #1 firing position one

i forgot again for sure though, its been a while again..

and when you set the actual ign timing unplug the wire or spark module on firewall or intake bracket

set to zero of course

On my 94 there are numbers stamped on that tab, do ya think if you used a wire toothbrush or screwdriver and cleaned up the tab that there might be some on yours.. ?

BTW, the EST wire you need to unplug on the "92 I looked at yesterday was under the passenger floormat all the way up at the top next to the heater box.
A Brown wire with a square black connection to unplug.

Tomorrow I'm going my my pals house who has a clean "92, I'll look at his for ya.

you guys say there are 2 lines on the Harmonic Balancer ?
Can you chalk both and time it with whichever one shows up under the light ?

My balancer only has 1 line, however on each rotation of the engine, it can be top dead center or bottom dead center. It has to be set to top dead center, with the pickup pulling from spark plug #1.

You really only need to worry about top dead center if you had the dist pulled out, other wise if you mark the balancer, connect to #1 and pull the advance wire, you should be good to go. I don't think you'll find 2 different marks on the balancer. I have never seen that.

My 88 Astro had 2 marks about 1cm apart IIRC.....

ok so, assuming that you used the hanes manual which suggests you go with #4 at TDC look again it also says that the timing marks on the balancer which should be 2 of them, one is for cyl #1 and one is cyl #4. as for the sluggish crank, make sure that your torque value on your valve rockers is not too high.
