to start off I have 2 jl audio 10w3's in a sealed box in my xcab powered by a 1200 Rockford prime amp, I have a friend who is selling me 2 brand new 10w7's for cheap, I was wondering how big of a difference would it be to have 1 w7 instead of 2 w3's? I only have enough money for 1 sub and enough to build a box, I searched youtube but all the videos sound like crap, and help would be appreciated, thanks

W7 all the way, thats theyre top line sub. As long as its in great shape, coil is good and hasnt been abused... Go for it you wont be disappointed. Will sound best in a slot ported box but sealed might be more realistic if you still want some room.

There is a lot of technology in the w7 that make it what it is. Look it up on jls website. They have 7 us patents on the design i believe, all made in mirimar florida, crazy motor structure, linear excursion, damping factor, cone area... The list goes on.

^agreed... W3s are very good... Im working on a custom build for 2 10" w3s as we speak but w7s are in a different league. listen to the same track at the same volume with the same equipment on a w3 versus a w7 and its night and day.

Gotta feed the W7 a lot of CLEAN power for sure, so keep that in mind.

I just realized youre in austin. After I finish painting my pickup, I'll build you a box for the cost of materials if you want. Hell, I'll do a fiberglass jumpseat box.

let me know.

I have had very good luck with the ones on south congress past william cannon. If you are heading south on south congress, there is a yard on the left. I think its called Allied Auto Parts. They guy allows me to walk the yard with out charging anything. I bring my own tools. Very nice. He has a book that he uses for everyday parts, fenders, hoods, doors, etc etc.. But odds and ends, like trim peices, random clips, and bolts, he'll usually just throw a number out there. I walked up with a headliner, dash, and a bunch of odds and ends for my first gen 2 years ago and he was like.. uuuuuhhhh.. 65$? I said Sold!

There is a 2nd yard I only goto if the first on doesn't have what I'm looking for. Its acutally much larger, but waaay scketchier. I think its called LKQ something. Its acutally on the RIGHT just before the first yard I told you about. They sometimes charge folks a few bucks just to walk the yard.

Hope that helps. Best of luck. I acutally am looking for another dash for my 1st gen. Don't care if its got minor cracks, I want to try and do something different with it. Also an headliner for my 1st gen as well.

ok I went and checked out about 5 yards the other day but none of them had anything other than this place called big 4 auto parts, they had the 130amp version of the ad244, any idea on how well these work? the alternator sticky doesn't really say much about it.

also I saw 2 first gens in the yard just north of stassney on congress (the really sketchy one where you park by the road) while digging around, forgot to check for headliners but they had the dash, one was really cracked , the other had been taken apart, couldn't tell if all the pieces were there.

No idea on the 130 alt. Post in the forum, someone should be able to speak up. thanks for the info on the first gens. I might right out there in a bit.

ok so I bought the 130amp alternator and installed it (it was only 50 bucks) now my volts rarely drop below 14 other than when I tested it with everything on full, got it from a junkyard down in kyle with a 90day warranty, had some newer cars and trucks but no square bodies, when do you think you would have time to build a box?

Hopfully soon. I need to finish my slim mount bed topper, I hope to finish that next week. I took a break from working on stuff for a bit. I'll be out of town after that. So few weeks out. Any idea's what you want to do? Jumpseat box, Simple box or something crazy? Carpet or Paint? Ported or sealed? Throw out some ideas.

I was thinking an individual box for each, that'll make it easier to take them out when I drive out of town, im leaning towards a ported wedge box, from what I've read ported sounds better, and the wedge shape so I can still recline the seat lol, and with normal carpet maybe black, nothing really crazy, in my head this sounded simple now that im typing it it sounds like im asking allot lol

No, thats pretty easy stuff. I'm of the opinion that ported vs sealed is up to the user. Depends on the style of music, and a few other factors. I will say this, ported will take up a bit more space then sealed, but a ported box when built right tends to be more efficent. Sealed boxes in my opinion take up less space, and do well for all kinds of music, but are not as efficent. With W7s, I would get the most of'em and go ported. Not sure how tall you are, but it may or may not change how far back your seats go. I have some black carpet and back faux suede we could use. I like the the idea of 2 boxes, easy to remove, but I think a single box would look a bit more slick.

sorry about the late reply, been really busy lately, I think I'll go with ported, I listen to mostly rock, rap, and metal but I turn the bass down with rock and metal, I have a playlist on my phone for bass songs and that's usually when I turn it up. I think the single box would look better but itll be a bit heave to remove by myself when I have to, and Ill stick to the black carpet, If I have a really nice box itll make the rest of my stock interior look like shit haha

let me know when you have time and we can meet up

Sounds good. Shouldn't be to far off. I started repainting my bed topper. Hope to have it done by next sunday. After that, I should have sometime.

I actually just finished the topper this weekend along with a color changing computer case. Check the Exterior Paint part of the forum. I will not be able to do it for a few more days because the topper needs to fully cure.. =/.. But at least its done. My wife has me working on a few things. But I think I should open up to do this in the next week or so.
