From '89 - on: step 1: Tighten all bolts to 18
step 2: tighten all to 26 except for #9, re-torque #9 to 18 again
step 3: tighten all an additional 90* All from Chiltons

#9 is all the way front drivers side

I'm about 25 minutes South of you down Route 2.

Thanks - I bought a set of Fel-Pro Head bolts as well and that is what the instructions said to do as well. I figured that I would double check, as I've never run into a motor that wants you to turn the bolt 90 degrees.

Thanks for the help!

all new chevy engines have "torque to yield bolts".. basically you torque them, then do an angle additional turn to them. this stretches the bolt and causes it to keep better tension on whatever you're tightening. these bolts are never re-used, and tossed when taking them out

hey man u can get the chiltons at oriallys and heres the torque specs
Flywheel 44
thats all i can find.

Does this apply to bottom end bolts too? You saying I should purchase new connecting rod & crankshaft bolts b/c they too are stretched?

Dude, I have reused my head bolts 3X now, they are fine, my uncle (GM Mechanic) reuses them and my Grandfather (Retired GM Mechanic) also does this. I used 105 on the head bolts and 37 on the rods, 75 on the mains.

Course I have a knocking noise after a 2 hour drive now, but I did have to use some other questionable parts that I wish I had never considered, plus the radiator blew out on me on that trip and overheated the motor. The radiator had a crack in it that had been there a while (was rusted).
