Hi when i shift gears my oil pressure goes into the danger area on the gauge, and runs 28 psi what do you guys suggest is wrong?

After swapping a new head and doing all gaskets, i almost get the same problem. it used to idle at midway, but now it idles at quarter way. i changed my oil after the head swap, but i didnt change the filter. no coolant got in the filter, so i dont see why it would matter, and the truck had 500 miles before i did the new head.

My trucks oil pressure will go to like 20 psi thats normal for idle if its at 28 psi you are fine.

do you think its my guage that isnt reading right? maybe the oil pressure sending unit went bad? i don't hear any ticking, the top end seems to get enough oil. but when i do sit in traffic and dont give it gas, the oil pressure will go down into the red zone and i'll get a "check guages" light.

thats what happend to me everytine i stoped my oil pressure went down and sometimes it would say check gages then if i give it gas it would go up. i dont think that if it was the sending unit because wouldnt it not really work at all or only sometimes? i would check that out befor it blows up on the highway 2 hours from home. thats what happened to me

actually..i think its just cheap oil. its normal when its coldish, but when you run it for more than 20 minutes, the oil probably breaks down and is more watery.

I had to put a new head on and all that good stuff, so i just drained the oil which had coolant in it, and put in advance auto cheap oil to flush it out, i was planning to run it for like 500 miles then get decent oil.

I had a talk with some guy today at work that said that theres a very high possibility its just cheap oil that i used. No more advance auto oil for me.

I had kindof that problem in my truck. It would idle at like 30 when it started and then drop down to about 10 when it was warmed up. I had mobile1 in it so it wasn't the oil. replaced the sending unit cuz I had a shop tell me the pressure was fine. That made no change and about 3 months later it had dropped so it would idle at about 2-3psi and at WOT it was about 15. Finally i took it to another stop and found out the blow-by spring in the oil pump broke and it was actually that low for about 4k miles.

Luckily there was no visible damage in the motor, no flakes in the oil or filter. I think that because of running the mobile1 the whole time.

hmmmmm that seems to be the same problem i'm having..yeah i put in some pretty good brand, i forget the name since it was a good brand oil on sale. It's normal pressure when it's cold, but after it warms up a bit, it drops down a whole lot.

blow-by spring in the oil pump you say? how hard is that to change? is the pump underneath the oil pan?
