Hey guys, I'm selling my Vortech 4.8 and 4l60e on ebay.... What would you say the approximate weight of these would be?? Do you think 600 lbs would cover it?? I'm needing to know because of shipping estimates. Thank You.

You may have a difficult time shipping via UPS or FedEx. They get squemish about the fluids leaking and such. I used to run a parts counter at a salvage yard and we couldn't use UPS or FedEx for any of our used trannys or engines. Always had to strap them down on pallets and use a common carrier.

Fed Ex Freight here in Springdale, AR didn't seem to mind, they just told me to drain the engine and trans before shipping. They even told me they would put it on a pallet, band it and wrap it for free.

well i cant give you numbers for your situation but i can tell you that i shipped a transmission before from a 2.8 automatic and the transmission itself was over 150 pounds including the torque converter and packaging.

My buddy ordered a 383 smallblock complete motor carb and all and the shipping weight was like 685 pounds you can figure teh crate was about 70 pounds of that but your motor should be around the same weight. As far as the trans goes with converter id say my best guess would be about 150 pounds give or take a few pounds but they feel heavier when you lay em on your chest and bench press em into place while a buddy puts the bolts in ( kids....... dont try this at home!)

lol, that sounds like a lotta fun, if I wasn't a wimp that's what I'd do, but I think I'll stick to a floor jack :)

I've been there man, happened on my old Vette and my Camaro. Now I've got a tranny jack with a rachet strap. Much better now:D
