Good evening guys, I'm finally geting a chance to work on my '98 S10 truck... after it's been parked for a couple of years with a blown head gasket. I've got the head rebuilt and back from the shop....and I've decided to go ahead and snatch the motor out and replace all the bearings and rings. The main reason for the new rings is because the pistons had water on top of them for the duration......and I was just afraid that the rings might be a bit trashed. The cyl. walls look GREAT..... and I plan to just hone them a bit....and they will be fine.
My question is this.....the engine has over 100K miles...but will be fresh with the exception of the cam really. What kind of performance 2.2 cams are available??? What would I be looking to spend for cam and lifters???
I know I could obviously just cut to the chase and drop a V8 in the truck and call it done....... but I really want to keep the '98 truck a cruiser (slammed, system, exhaust, intake, etc.) ......and I've got an '84 GMC S15 Jimmy that I would rather V8....so I plan to keep the '98 a smooth driver.....with a few mods here and there.
If you guys have any advice for me then I'd really like to get some input. I'm just not real familiar with the availability of 2.2 internal parts and etc. .....I'm used to working on SBC's
THANKS, Brian TexasS10 sniperman76@hotmail.com
