What is this and how do I fix it?

Hi,

The joint circled in the picture makes a clunking sound everytime I turn the tine past a certain point. The wheel also jumps back toward the car when the joint makes the noise. Can anyone tell me what this joint is called and how difficult it is to replace?

Thanks,

Hey, just an update. I almost figured out what this is the hard way...

Turns out this is the joint on the upper control arm that is used to do front end alignments. Well, when Mavis discout tire changed my tire and did my alignment--they forgot to tighten this joint back down. So it was flopping around on my way home this weekend. Everytime I hit a bump the alignment would change-- I almost got jerked off the road a few times... Plus it screwed the tread on my front tires over.

so next time you get a front end alignment done you may want to check that they tighten everything down....

I did bitch to them, and I got them to re-do the aignment for free.... what a pain in the ass.

My regular mechanic replaced the passenger side c/v axle and they tried to tell me he must have left the upper control arms loose... he only worked on the passenger side, so OBVIOUSLY he would have loosened BOTH upper control arms, right? Plus he did that job almost a month before they did the alignment... I had to have my mom fax them the recipt to get them to do the alignment for free.

Bunch of sloppy bastards over there....
