Ok i went to autozone to have them check my battery..they came out did a check on it ..it came up loose cables check for errosion...wtf my cables arent loose an there aint no errosion...so i was like ok whatever..i go to leave start my truck up the gauge cluster lights turn on...the oil an volt gauge turn on...my my rpm an spedo gas...an whatever else there is wouldnt turn on also under the rpm gauge were it has park drive an all that crap ..to show what gear your in was off an same under the speedo...so im like wtf an i back out then put it in drive....my truck is an automatic also ...so i put it in drive an for those of you that have an auto if like lets say you put in the 3rd gear an start off..it kind of lags? like i will give it gas an it will barley get going...but its in overdrive an it wont go into a passing gear it wont shift to get to a lower rpm or nothing...what the hell happened? did he **** something up when checking my battery?..the only fuses i have found that are blown aare the heat an ac fuse an the gauge cluster fuse.....does anyone know what could have happened? what the hell could this be...why would my tranny act weird an keep blowing those to fuses?

sound like either your ecm is ****ed up

also check the ground wire from the wiring harness to the engine block, me and my dad screwed witha truck with similar problems for 3 days, the guages would go crazy, if you hit the brakes it would blow fuses adn die, and we got and ass load of error coedes, the wire was either broke or corroded.

ecm...yea im not a motor guy or any of that...wut is that...an were are these grounds...thats kinda what i think it is ..a ground but i have no clue were to check them at...

do any of you think it will be ok to drive untill thursday when i can take it in to get fixed?

#7 ·
truck=fine
then went to autozone and they hooked up the lil cart thingy and it said it couldnt test then they unhooked it and you left
the truck=poopy

if thats how it went down then id go back to them and have them lok at it and have them explain what they plan on doing to fix it

id check out the cable connections first though

ok i get there...we clear the codes ...there was a bunch of em ..like 12 all for like the transmissiom an crap..so we clear em put in a new fuse for the ac/h..an my miliage an the prnd321 lights came on an the battery light was on..the ket wasnt..so im like..hmm ok..so we tighted up the positive bolt on the battery an put another fuse in the gauge cluster the truck starts up everything is fine..i get hlf way down the road it freaks out agian..the check engine light was blurin an ogin on an off..so i pull into go get gas the ac/heat fuse wasnt blown..but the gauge cluster fuse was..so i replaced it everything was better i drive it home...truck is running fine everything works but the speedo gauge? wtf i duno what the hell is wrong

and all this happened immediatly after getting the battery tested?

it does seem if something got fried,

did they do a "load test" on your batt, if so that is the most likely culprit, the load test draws out your charging system and tests if it can keep up with the load, therefor making your alt spike out its output, that coulda done somthing

theres also a fusible link under the battery tray that may have burnt and it flopping about and causing havoc

have you checked both the dash fuses and the underhood ones including the big ass ones?

ya i checked the fuses...both sets...an they said they did a volt test?...i duno if i take it somewere an i find out it was cause of them they are payin the bill!

The only thing Autozone did was run a voltage and current test across the terminals of your battery. This has nothing to do with all the electrical problems you're experiencing. Its obvious you aren't experienced enough to diagnose the problem so instead of asking people to guess, take your truck to a reputable repair facitity and have it fixed right the first time. I assure you, no one on this board is going to be able to diagnose your problem without actually LOOKING at it.

I'm not trying to bust your balls, I'm just trying to save you from further aggravation. Let us know what the outcome is.

well im already too agravated! an every mechanic i go to hands me a bunch of bs with every problem i ever have...well i get up this mornin the battery is dead as a door nail...i jump start it...runs alright but sometimes acts like it wants to stall...then i work all day 12 hours..come out ..yup its dead agian...drive home an i cat be at a stop without it stalling on my...so i park it....then i decide to go get the alternator checked...well it runs fine ..didnt start up..so i had to jump it..but now its running fine all except my speedo still isnt working well noone could check it cause it was rainin..an bla bla bla so they tell me to dissconnect the neg. side of the battery when its running an that will tell me if it is bad or not..cause i guess if it cuts off when i take the neg cable off the alt. is bad...well the damn bolt is stripped so i couldnt get it off an i was geting way to agravated cause now my hood done fell on my head trying to get the stupid ****in bolt off ..in the dark! ughhh talk about agravated...so i said **** it shut the damn truck off an get out..then i notice that the battery light is on..an the prnd321 an the odometer is on...so i look under the hood an take out the heat/ac fuse that blew when this all happened..but i had replaced it an it hadnt burned up yet..so when i pull it out the motor makes its little noise that it makes when i shut the truck off an those lights go off..now my question is..do yall think it could be the alternator doing all this ..if not why would my heat/ac fuse be keeping something on to use my battery ..an if yall have the 4.3l ya know the noise kinda like a clickin noise the motor makes after you shut it off? well why would it keep it from doing that an using my battery up? ...well if i cant figure it out imma just take into somewere an see if they can figure it out..

the speedo could be due to a speed sensor being bad

sounds like your alt is going out and maybe your battery

it happened to my buddies car it would not charge enough at idle so the bat light would come on and if he got it about 2000rpm it would charge just enough to run decent and keep the bat light off

sounds similar

yea that whole ac/heat fuse thing...just throws it all off..i dont understand..

If your battery is bad you are ****ing up your alternator driving around.

REPLACE YOUR BATTERY.

You will now probably have to replace your alternator because it will fail from having to try to recharge your battery when the battery = shit.

Also check the ground wire on the drivers side that is attached to the core support. By the fuse block.
Make sure that the bolt is tight.

I had the same thing happen when mine was really loose.

WHATEVER YOU DO REPLACE YOUR BATTERY.

yea i will thanks i will check that...you say the bolt is on the core support?

#25 ·
...maby have a pic of where its at?

Yeah it is on the core support on the drivers side. It has one of those braided ground straps coming off of it.

Make sure the bolt is really tight.

Also recheck ALL your fuses. I know you said you did but do it again. Pull each one out and look at it.

Sometime COMPLETELY unrelated things are on the same fuses.

Example.

Couldn't pull codes on my truck because the cig lighter fuse was blown.
