yes i am a rookie here. i have an 89 cameo with a 4.3l v6. the timing chain is toast and so are the sprockets. i replaced it with a double roller timing set. now i have a knocking sound to which i beleive is bent push-rods. can anyone provide any assistance on what else i should check or possible upgrades while i have it down. my current mods are k+n round breather, tbi spacer, jet stage 2, crank and alternator pulleys, taurus e-fan, accel 8.8 wires and distributor cap, b+m shift kit, cat. convertor removed, dynomax mandrel bent exhaust, egr mod, vented + cross drilled rotors, energy suspension polyurethane bushings, hellwig sway bars (front + rear), belltech spindles.

How far you going into it ? If pulling heads you might look for a set
of L35 heads for your 1st Gen. Here's a link to some numbers.
The early L35's will flow better than the LB4/TBI heads..Course
the 96+ Vortec heads are the best but you can't run your TBI
manifold on em without a LOT of machining on the manifold. Some
guys go to the Edelbrock manifold 2116, I think, to fit on the
late heqads and get a TBI adaptor for it...Anyway

hopefully i will not have to pull the heads. but if i do i may look at the junkyard for the upgrade.

i thought P&P'd L35 heads were the best way to go? even tho the newer heads flow better, they have lower hp and tq numbers.
