I have a 97 S-10, 2.2L, 5 sp, 4:10 rear end, 225/70 15's and just figured out I've got a problem with my Stock tach's accuracy - BIG TIME. I replace the No-Tach cluster that came in it with one I got online from a salvage yard that's suppose to be from same year, same engine/trans. It had MORE bells and whistles than the one I replaced and "everything" works. Tach tops out at 6000, redline begins at 5000 and Lite-Red at 4500 - does this sound correct?
At 65 MPH in 5th gear the tach indicates only 1950 RPM! I just got the trans 5th gear ratio and went to several online calculators and they all said it sould be ~2700 RPM!!
I tried to do a search a see if anyone else has come across this to no avail. I did find a post where people knew about capacitor size to replace on the cluster ciruit board to correct it. They talked about some member having a pic but not saying where it was located. The thread was about 6 and 8 cylinders, not 4's.
Does it sound like they sold me a clust that was for a 4.3? Does anyone know about replacing this capacitor to correct this along with pic/diagram? I may be able to figure it out from the Chilton's but not sure how detailed the wiring diagram is for the cluster.
thnx
