Rice...vs Japanese engineering that will stomp your ass

Well, this is an offshoot from the "need a good laugh" thread...
Responding to the guy from the ranger forum who was trashin the Integra GSr and Accord.

I agree that more stickers than paint, un-nessecary wings, and those god forsaken wheel extensions with 13" are totally rice, and if you see one out while cruising... stomp his ass.

However, there are finely tuned machines out there... that will blow the doors off a Mustang GT... Camaro Z... and other "muscle" cars. These, should not be called rice, because it is an insult to the person or persons who have spent countless hours, and a great deal of money perfecting their rides, like we mini truckers have. Ive seen a few in my home town that I will not f*ck with, even if I dropped a 350 in my truck with a 9" locker, and every bolt on mod that money can buy... because those cars are light, nimble, and will make you look foolish if the driver knows how to hit his shift points.

Man, your and idiot, I would drop in a 350 in my S10 and I would drop in every mod known to man and **** yeah I would stomp on a Japanese tuned car, stroke the block, cam form hell, blower, stall converter that stalls high enough to almost hi 1500 before redline, narrow rear end, gears, traction bars, tubbed out, and still be runnin all engine and pull a wheelstand passed a Japanese tuned cars's ass.......throwin smoke from the tires all up in his ****in car with sparco seats, turbo times, ***** ass nitrous bottle ( BOTTLES ARE FOR BABIES ALL THROTTLE NO BOTTLE!!! ) and I would be proud of it.....thats my .02 cents!!!!!

you know how they say got Rice? WELL GOT DETROIT!!!! as in DETROIT MUSCLE!!!!!!!

tuned machines

IMO there are certain Jap/Foreign cars that would not be a good idea to mess w/ unless you too have boost.. my friends GSX would stomp my ass up and down unless I had 10 grand to spend on my engien ... blower.. cams, pistons... etc... And his is still pretty much stock.. not to mention the supra's or the TT's... and those are the stock turboed cars... since its so cheap ( round 2000 - if i remember correctly) to turbo those damn civics, there is bound to be too many of those rolling around..

As Detroit boys have found, horse power doesn’t need to come from displacement.

Each to their own, I respect those people who have the money and time to invest into a car/truck.. I prefer sleepers like our mini’s… if its fast when you get it (Eclipse, talon, supra, tt, WRX, Lancer – when it gets here), you bought it, not built it. Upgrade it and make it even fast then you might gain respect.

I love american muscle as much as the next guy but you have to respect the rice to a point.To get a four popper to run in the sevens in the quarter is pretty damn good.It's nice to see something different once in a while,anyone can make a v-8 go fast.Just my thoughts.

Unfortunately, you're right. We have to give credit where credit is due... even if it is to jap cars.

Do you think we would respect a stock supercharged 4 bangin mitsubishi eclipse that can masacre a grand prix (older with a six), or a 91 s-10 w/stock 4.3 if the eclipse were from GM?

This is what I've been preachin for a while.... good engineering is good engineering no matter who does it. Jap cars can and will stomp detroit muscle any time. Same goes for Detroit over jap cars... It's all in the engineerg, and I'm sad to say in most categories, espically reliability, jap cars ow3n domestics. (stock)

And the torch has been passed.........Exactly how does a converter stall high enough to hit 1500 before redline? LMAO...And I thought I was bad !! LOL

Keep in mind, these cars that we are talking about CAN TURN! Try that with a tubbed, big block vehicle.

To me a good performing vehicle is a well rounded vehicle. Acceleration, handling, braking, looks etc all play a part in a quality vehicle.
I agree 100% with the original post. I am always happy to see a nicely engineered, clean and professional modification, be it on a nice classic domestic or a modern import.

I just test drove a 1.8liter turbo VW golf and have one thing to say. DAMN!

i aggree.....theres just as many ricey s-10's (from people with different [bad] taste) well many not quite as many but i'm sure you've all seen the guys with wings on there trucks (no offence to people with wings) around where i live there is a 12 second type-r...the guy has put more time and money into that car then its worth...and it shows...although i love the muscle cars i find it pretty impressive watching an import do a 13 sec 1/4 while running 24/28 mpg :D

You know i've been thinking about what I said, and you know, maybe those jap engineered cars will earn my respect one day but I am yet to see one run that I give props where props are due, down here all you see are ricers, and riced out chong cars, like lincoln mark 8's with wings and glorified glasspacks, 4 door cars like suzuki's, geos, ford fiestas, geo prizms , a few rangers and s10's, i even saw a brand new Z71 with Euro Bomb style mufflers!!!! i had a **** attack!!! but one day they might, and the only one i have been beaten by is a guy with a del sol runnin with boost and magic funny gas....but yea i guess i will learn to like them, hell my friend has a volvo 850gle with a DOHC 4 banger, Weapon R Intake, and Exhaust and he stomps 6 banger camaros and mustangs left and right, its pretty sad......but my V8 S10 Blazer is dead and parked right in front of my house for like the past month, and i am thinkin about gettin a Maxima....hell my friends Maxima runs 14.40 on juice and bolt ons, sooo we'll see....laters you all...AARON

85 S10 Blazer 2 door, V8 350, Edelbrock Intake, Headman Hedders, Flowmasters, 3.42's posi, QuadraJet Carb, 700R-4 TCI Tranny, TCI 2800 stall converter, port and polished heads 2.02 1.60, B&M Light Truck Megashifter, mild cam 292 degree 452 duration, now.....it smokes like a chimney, inside outside, everwhere!!! was runnin 14.3 with a sick engine.....i think i could have gotten 13's if it wasnt messed up

Just a correction, the Eclipse GST's and GSX's is TURBO.
Stock they run a high 14's low 15's. @ 15 lbs of boost. These cars also weigh in at 3200lbs. Put in about $1500 (exhaust, boost controller and AFC) and they will run in the mid to high 12's.

Skyline's, TT Supra's, TT 300ZX are SWEET cars. NO rice what so ever in these. Especially if there pumping out 500+ HP. The TT Supra stock bottom end alone can handle upwards of 700 HP. Can your's?

oh yeah and the skyline cant forget that bish saw a pic of a engine for one of these... ummm it must have bene runnign something like 40 PSI it was TTSC'd 2 turbos and a supercharger... infockingsane
i miss my talon and ppl say the talon/eclipse isnt fast i guarentee they are i have driven a GST and that thing was insane every time you shift yer in the seat it had enough power to get a move on the 4 bangers dont have the torque of detroit but they for damn sure have the power and mo betta gas milage as for civics they are too dime a dozen... i like the older CRX's ppl are grabbing and dumping the typer R motot or the new SI motor into the CRX is TINY the size of the del sols maybe smaller even so they weigh next to nothing and with 200 or so stock horsepower that thing can ge tup and move... thats before exaust and any kits that are added...
and most who are doing engine swaps dont put stickers on the car unless that company paid for it to be done and wants the sponcership rights...

my friend reffered me to this threed and i had to register and comment on it...

you speak of something you dont know anything about... you want to compare trucks vs imports? im not sure if your crazy or not but you are sounding like it...

they are 2 different worlds, each one has there share of what you call "rice"... yes i see the usual fart cannons and stickers up the ying type cars everyday, but what do you do, you laugh it off and move on..

you better start respecting jap engineered vechiles, since they only own about 80% of the market.. you find your power in your 6's and 8's... i find it amasing that my car being a inline 4 banger 2.0L can run a high 12 with only about $1500 in mods... now where would $1500 get you? these are all "bolt ons" as you call them... i have spent countless hours tuning my car to get the best bang from every mod... some of the comments in this threed just bother me... i would gladly line up against anyone, you know why, BECAUSE ITS FUN! and thats what this is all about, everyone should be out there to have fun...

I had a 96 TSi AWD for about 2 years. Buschur UICP, 1g BOV, 2.5" Turboback Greddy exhaust, MBC, and some small things I cant think of. I loved the turbo and AWD but it kept breaking so I did the economical thing and got a truck with almost enough power to get out of its own way. What you got done?

BTW my MachV name was TalonAWD96 (now Low S-10) and SlamdTSi AWD from DSMforum

some ppl eare crazy i have a lot of buddies in the SI groups cuz ive worked with them and guess what their car exterior wise looks almost bone stock no big wings maybe a new bumper cover and most had wheels but all looked pretty stock under the hood was the amazement... i mean my buddies CRX SI is sicked that thing has no weight hardly and pushing like 225 ponies from the 2001 SI vtec so it gets up and moves and stock these things are stiff and hes about to put coilover all around those cars have a lot for their size... i just dont like the ones that add all the body parts and stickers but couldnt beat a 2.2 off the line :D

you live in america boy....dont show any remorse to those jap cars, besides...the thing about buying every bolt on....a local street racer has a '91 s-10 with a 406 cube SBC that runs 9.30's.....get your ricer buddys and tell em to get their money out.

there are civics around here that run high 8's power is very high to weight ratio because they are so small

There a HUGE difference there.

1 its a V8
2. its NOT what came in the car from the factory or a option


See thats the thing. American Cars needs V8's and big CID to run those times. Jap cars can basically use a 4 banger to run that. If you want to compare apples to apples. Find a 4 banger or V6 S-10 and get it to run 9.30's. I dont see to many of those, do you?

I can name off over 20 guys that use a block that came in the car and run mid 10's to low 8's. Not some 4 banger or V6 truck that needed a Big Displacement motor swap to do it.

The civics are doing motor swaps. GSR and Type r motors. To run 9s they have to gut the car. John lingenfleter built a C5 with a stock block twin turbo all accesories and nothing pulled out. Still power everything and A/C. Turned the 1/4 at 8.9 sec. Able to get 16-23 mpg.
Skylines, supras, NSX, Zs are all 6 cylinder cars. Not 4 bangers. Its impressive yeah but cheaper to build a carb V8. Untill 4's can run 3.9 1/4s the V8 is still ahead.
You fully build a 500cid v8 to a 4 the v8 will always be on top. Now they are starting to turbo charge V8s. SO the 4 banger will be put right back behind the 8 once this becomes common practice. 4's keep up b/c of turbos.

My point is, ITs still a 4 banger that came in a car from the factory, not a built GM motor from a performance catalog.


You can only take a car so far, 4 banger or V8, before its just for race only. Take a Camaro Z28 and a Eclipse GSX. Both are still capable of running 10's with mods. 4banger(122cid) running 10's compared to a V8 (350cid) running 10's. Sorry I still think that 4 bangers with less than half the displacement is still far more technolicicaly advanced to be capable of running those times.

hey lwrdS10, yah i do remember seeing you around, ive put a lot into this since i ran my last time.. 13.8 on stock t25 turbo.. since then i went to a FP Green turbo (3 times the size of the t25) running 21 psi , fmic, etc... all the rest of the fun stuff, track times to come as soon as i finish breaking in my clutch and alumnium flywheel..

They call the eclipse motor the replacement for displacment...

i take offense to the comment of calling me a ricer... maybe if you learned what the word ment, you wouldnt be so bitter...

whats the matter? all the money you spent on your truck and your still only hitting the 15 second 1/4 mile... go grow up, im using HALF the motor your using and still turning out times that would blow your mind...

this is just getting to be a stupid discussion, you cant compare
