[ProjecT] Work Truck

So 3 weeks ago my daily driver Beretta decided to crap out on me and I was left with no vehicle and starting a new job in 5 days. Well I didn't have the 2-3 weeks that it was going to take to tear down and rebuild the motor (again) and my parents said that since I wasn't gonna tear down and rebuild the motor that they were "repo-ing" my car and I was now on my own for a vehicle. Well I scraped together all the money I had, and bought a new daily driver/work truck. Its a '95 S10 short cab short bed with a 2.2/5speed and 84,000 miles. Its pure bare bones/work truck. Heat only (no A/C), rubber floor, bench seat, non-tilt column, and even a GM rollpan that was a cheaper option than a real bumper. I got a super deal on it and its been a great work truck for the past 3 weeks. Here's some pics from when I brought it home:

What I love about this truck is the POTENTIAL it has. As you can tell, some aspects of it are a bit rough. The front end is smashed, the passenger mirror is missing, the rollpan is hanging by who knows what, the tailgate handle is bent/crooked, etc. etc. But the body is in great shape for being a '95 and a work truck. There's probably a grand total of 15-20 dents on the truck INCLUDING ones INSIDE the bed. My new job is at a bodyshop so a large part of the plans for the truck is to practice/hone my bodyworking skills on it and then paint it a bit nicer color lol. But the front end needs to be fixed, so might as well swap it for a '98 up front end, right? I need a new mirror so might as well get some Street Scene ones... The rollpan is falling off, so I'm thinking about putting a stock bumper on (EVERYBODY has rollpans....who runs bumpers on a custom truck these days? Besides...all the people who have rollpans can hardly GIVE AWAY their old stock bumpers lol). The tailgate handle is crooked, so might as well shave it and relocate it to the inside...

But anyway...not really sure where this truck/project will head but anything that happens with it will go here in this thread.

ok well i finally got a few free minutes so I'm gonna update this thread. First I'm gonna start off with all of the pre-ITB things that I did to the truck, then I'll post up the longer list of things I still need to fix on it lol.

Pre-ITB mod list:
-new rear drums and brake pads
-1.5" spacers in the rear to replace the 1/2" spacers that used to be back there
-Front end swap
-'98up core support
-'98up sonoma fog light style headlights, cleared out
-'98up sonoma chrome grille
-'98up sonoma SLE bumper cover
-'98up rear step bumper
-Both bumpers primed to match
- "Layinbody Customs" windsheild banner
- Thorbecke Brothers/Suicidedoors.com sticker on rear window

ummmm yeah I think thats about it. The front end swap was accomplished for under $250, and all the mods (and maintenace items) listed totaled less than $400

Ok so I finally found the envelope that I wrote down all my "To-Do" stuff on, so here's the current list of stuff that needs to be fixed yet on this beast:

-Replace EGR solonoid (causing SES light to come one every now and then)
-Replace clutch (prolly the original, and the truck now has 86k miles so its due time)
-Change Oil (probably due sometime this week....haven't checked recently)
-Change rear end pinion seal (it apparently leaks pretty bad)
-Weld on the set of SD.com front shock relocaters that I have so I can have shocks on the front (finally)
-Attatch swaybar (end links need installed)
-Fix electrical grounds on front end (turn signal lights up when I hit the brakes lol)
-Get/install license plate light mounts (didn't get them with the rear bumper [yet])
-Clean interior (still haven't since I bought it....yuck)
-Fix bumper cover mount (it broke after I fixed it once)
-Straighten drivers frame horn (the big dent in the front bumper was right in line with the frame horn :()
-Straighten and paint bumper reinforcement (a bit bent on one end, rusty on the inside)
-Buy/install new serpentine belt (probably will do this in combination with a mod)
-Drill out rivets on '98up AirBag sensors that are on '98up core support and replace with '95 AirBag sensors
-Do an alignment

Then other than that stuff its just project-type stuff that would take my time with this truck...

maybe i missed something but why do you need to use these on a static drop truck? only reason i can think of is that i think i saw that you have your dehumped and pie cut arms on the truck but that wouldn't affect shock mounting would it? just wondering.

you're correct in your reasoning. I do indeed have the pie-cut and de-humped control arms from my '91 on this truck, which I metalworked a recessed shock mount into the backside of the control arms. I would have just mounted my shocks normally but I had already punched out the lower mounting fork dealio and replaced it with the stud that mounts the shock to the backside of the control arms.

Today it looks like I may have a little time to work on it so I'm going to try to get the oil change done, get the air bag sensors swapped over, and fix the grounding issue on the headlights

well last night worked on the truck for a little bit and did get the oil change done and the airbag sensors swapped over, but I didn't have the right rivets for the sensors so they're currently ziptied up, so that one is only halfway done. However, I had some issues fixing my turn signal problems, so if anybody can add anything helpful to this thread, I'd appreciate it:

tonight I got sick of seeing the big hole in my dash where the radio should be and the sound of nothing more than the engine while I drive, so I dug out my Pyle head unit thats like 4 years old and wired it up in the truck (after removing about 20 feet of extra wire). Its not permanently wired up (soldered in) yet because the radio isn't mounted to the dash due to a lack of mounting hardware, so I just used the wire nuts that were already on the wires to wire it up temporarily so I can at least hear some music while I drive. I need to make a mount for it that will be custom to incorporate 3 round things as well so when I do that I'll solder in all the wires and whatnot (and maybe install and hook up some door speakers too...it only has dash speakers in it haha)

oh, I also stopped by the local Chevy dealership and ordered up an EGR solonoid, so I will be replacing that shortly. I still have no idea what the problem is with my front turn signals, so if anybody has any ideas please check out my HELP! thread and post
