First off this looks like a good site, hopefully you guys can help me out a little.

Sunday evening I noticed a puddle under the front of my truck (1998 2.2L), it turned out to be anti-freeze. After looking at things a bit it seems to be coming from the back of the water pump so I need to remove it and either replace just the gasket or the whole thing, I also figured since I'm tearing things apart I should replace the belt, so I've already removed that. Now to my questions....

First off how do you remove the fan/clutch assembly? I've removed four bolts that I thought were holding it on, but it won't budge and I was afraid to use a pry bar. Is there something else holding it on, or is there some kind of special tool I need to get it off? I also am having trouble taking the water pump pulley off, it keeps turning while trying to loosen the bolts holding it on(duh ), would putting the belt back on help hold it?

Last thing, what other parts should I check while I have stuff tore apart under the hood?

as far as the fan clutch assembly, once you took the 4 bolts out, it should come off. it takes a little persuading sometimes. just dont pry too hard. i just wiggled mine from the top, then bottom... sometimes you can hit the fan with a hammer, but be careful. if you hit it too hard it will bend it. as far as the water pump goes, it has been years since i had a sonoma with the 2.2. i have a s10 with the 2.2 noe, but havent ran into this problem yet

Thanks man, I didn't know if there was some trick to it or not. I thought about trying a hammer, but those blades look like they could bend rather easy, guess I'll get my rubber mallet out and try carefully, lol.

That's exactly what I ended up doing. I also discovered that there is plenty of room to remove the water pump without removing the fan, it looked like it would be in the way, but isn't. Now I just have to get all the old gasket material scraped off and slap things back together, I should have it back up and running later this afternoon. :)
