Is a new throttle body worth the $ and are they hard to install? Also what kind of HP gains do you get and what are the benfits?

ASP will bore it for you. They did mine. I just got one form the junk yard and had it bored. Ran a total of $170 plus I still have my stock one. No my times didnt improve but with the Zexel I get a lot more wheel hop plus that day my clutch screwed up. Then 2 days later.... Clutch fell apart driving down the road. So I know I will have a faster time if everything works out. No the TB wont give you 20. more like 5-8. You get better throttle response and higher top end with more noise. But the mpg will suffer.

20hp... that is just f**king ridiculous..... you cant even gain those types of numbers from a turbocharged car. dude... for you to even clain those numbers you need to back it by having a dyno sheet on hand... my guess is you gain 2 hp at the flywheel and some damn throttle response. Before I beleive you I want a true dyno tested result. And why do you need a machine shop to "bore" out a throttle body. just spend some cash, buy an electric dye grinder and do it yourself. unless you have a badass air compressor, get an air dye grinder. then... after that money is spent you can port out other goodies on your engine.

does anyone sell one out right without you having to supply a core?

#34 ·
erron, so are you being serious about the gains???

#35 ·
Yeah, im pretty sure the gain was at least 20hp....but I also think the gains will differ from each other, because the different needs for air.

It really is much more fun to drive

I wish i could spend the money to do a dyno with both TB's...but its just too much for me to do
70 bucks an hour ...and it takes like 10 min to strap down

i cant even find a freakin throttle body to have machined. no at the junk yards. too much at the dealer. :gunfire:

what exactly do they do when they bore your tb?

#40 ·
you can get one from the dealer for 131.00

car-parts is a nationwide junkyard parts database. sellect what state you're in and it gives you a list of yards that have the part you're looking for, the price, and the yards address/number.

more than likely used. the good thing about car-part.com is that you can get in touch with the seller(be it junkyard, personal, whomever) and you can talk to them or go to the junkyard to see the part. my friend is doing this with a turbo 280zx motor tommorrow. its a good way to find good parts. its worth taking a look around to find a thorttle body... seems like it could save a few bucks seeing the aforementioned prices on this thread...

By the way I haven't yet found any real scpecs but speaking from experience I doubt our 2.2's draw much more that 300 cfm stock.
Sevearl mods can drastically change that. Headers, cam, pistons, and intake make the biggest changes in possible cfm. Porting the head makes a difference to.

i thought it was cheaper than buying a new and having it done.. BUT this makes you lose torque, so i would only get it with some type of forced induction.. nitrous for me!
so did you lose torque erronisme???
