ok what i want is to fab up some trailing arms so when i go to car shows i can hop it and get to the point where it starts to go over backwards and parks on the rollpan/bumper and stays there then when the show is over i can set it down and drive away

 

**gulp** I have to recommend a 2 link + panhard, at least for the amount of lift and travel you want. It'll be bad for the truck because you wont be able to keep your pinion angle correct, but, it'll have the lift without binding that you want. You could also look into a 3 link from suicidedoors.com, you wont have to fab anything for these kits, and yeah you will lay out, you'll also need to cnotch your frame and if you haven't already probably bridge it.

 

well man...truthly...i dont think it will work...no way u can get that kinda lift and still lay frame
u would have to have like 25 or 30 inchs of lift to get to set on the gate...ever seen ppl do it b4..those trucks arent drivin....they are trailer queens built for a purpose...i mean u can get mad lift with a 2 link and panhard...just run a set of 16's...but the bridge will stick outta the bed..and u prob still wont get the kind of lift u are wanting....if u want to do something that like...talk to the low-rider guys first...go to a low rider national...look at a pro-hopper car..i mean those cars are by no means low...so this is the time u gotta decide...hammered?? or 4wd??

 

I disagree, it will take modification and the bridge will be through the bed no matter what, more then likely will need longer arms, ie the longer the arm the more lift you have per degree that and telescoping cylinders, but it is possible.

yeah i know it is going to be a lot of work but thats what i want and i wont stop until i can get it right! i saw the cce truck at dropfest and he was SWANGING! three hits of the switch and he was on the tailgate!! parked!! and there wasnt anything sticking out of his bed! does any one know where i can get some pics of some radicals? so i can get a closer look at the setup? thanks 4 all the help

 

Try layitlow.com ??? I am not real sure I have never looked for stuff like that before. You wouldn't have to have anything sticking out because you would have to build the bars so they went under the cab and mount the cylinders way forward to get a big time lever action. I am almost positive that is the way they do it.

Areu tlaking about the blue s10 that gets loads of lift or the black f150 that gets like 4 ft of lift? Both of those dudes have the cylinders mounted in front of the bed and the trailing arms went under the cab.

 

I think it is more important to get good hops than mad lift in the back. You can do a 18" cylinder (around 18 anyway) to jack the back up. You should do a good long set of trailing arms (2-link) at least to the u-joint in the driveshaft if not more, and a watts linkage to prevent axle roll and shifting from side to side. A panhard with 18" of travel will shift the axle considerably, but can still be done (with flexible joint-ends).
I HOPE YOU DON'T HAVE A LONGBED!
Then, get good hops in the front and lay it up. I suggest keeping a good hard bumper, otherwise you will become really good at body work.

With and 18" cylinders they would stick above the bed. Which he doesn't want. You also have to have a good amount of lift in the rear to keep the bumper from stopping you from going past the arch point. To do what he wants he is going to have to remove the driveshaft and if you have a panhard you will have to disconnect it as well. I personally think unless your into a hopping comp. or from a hydraulic company it is kind of pointless BUT to each his own.

 

yeah i go to a LOT of car shows and i dont care what anyone says people like to see a truck stand straight up and down and park on the tailgate! people around here dont see that ever! so i have decided to try. i realy apreaciate all the advice keep it comming!

Good point, Haktup, I didn't see that in his post.
You should go to a lowrider show or something like that because I have seen daily drivers layed up on bumpers. To see it in person would answer a lot of your questions on how to do it. At the very least, buy yourself a lowrider DVD for the hopping competition. Check on lowridermag.com for some sources to those DVD's...
I say start building and work it out. There is no one right way to do it. Just to get the truck up on the bumper can easily be done thousands of different ways...
