I getting a 12" shallow mount rockford fosgate sub and i was thinking of building my own box. I want it to look like this...

i know i need 3/4" medium density fiberboard. How big should the hole for the sub be?
Do i use screws? Nails? What kind of glue, so it wont vibrate?
Anything else i should know?

Hole cutout diameter will be supplied when you buy the sub in the owners manual. It will also tell you how much airspace the sub required.

I always would use liquid nails on the joints, then screws (1.5"-2" screw). pre-drill first so the wood doesnt split. then i would run silicon around all the corners on the inside also when finished.

^well put. I couldn't have said it better myself. If I were to add to it, maybe throw a little bracing in there if you're feeling adventurous.

would it be better to go ported or sealed for a shallow? If ported, what would i go about doing? Just cuttin a hole somewheres? lol
If this is your first box, I would just go sealed. It isn't just "cut a hole in your box and go". Just to clarify, it's a "tube", not a "hole". That hole has a depth to it. Unless you want to bust out the calculator and do a little math, I'd just build a simple sealed box. Even if you were willing to do a little math (it really isn't hard, I'm probably making it sound more complicated than it really is), you probably don't know exactly what you're looking for (no offense).

shallows subs i believe should always be sealed. i no i read it somewhere on here. i just built a box its kinda crappy but perfectly sealed
I would have to disagree with this. I wouldn't say that ALL "shallow mount" subs want a sealed enclosure, but they probably don't perform as well as a "regular mount" (I hate those terms) sub in a similar ported enclosure. Just gotta model it and see.
