Is your setup? Is 250w respectable? Thanks

mine is "800" watts "rms", but that translates into about 400w RMS:D

when it comes to wattage, it depends on what youre looking for (SQ, SPL, etc) its not necessarily all about who has the most watts

"Respectable" is really hard to define. I believe a respectable system is one that sounds good and blends together well. Or if just going for spl then respectable is a system that gets louder than most people expect and can hold together well at high volume (not just solid distortion). I've heard respectable systems with as little as 100 watts, and I've heard crap systems with over 1000 watts.

As for mine, I am running 120rms to a single 8, the rest is stock (cd player, speakers). I hope to upgrade soon, but being in college and bustin ass to make bills keeps me from spending to much at this point.

I'm running 250rms in a blazer and it sounds great and its not a high SPL setup but its great for a family and it came with a low price tag.

Well, if you want to know what I had in my last truck (an IASCA pro-comp vehicle), I had a total of 9 Kicker ZR1000 amps (yes, a total of 9000 watts RMS -- and a separate 195-amp electrical system just for the stereo) and competed in Sound-Q Plus. One of them ran to my mid/high array (2 Kicker R25 tweeters, 2 Kicker R5 mids, 2 Kicker F8 mid-bass -- amp gain set VERY low for more dynamic head-room), 4 ran to Kicker 12-L7 Solobarics, and the other 4 ran to Kicker C18vr Comp VRs (all of them in the bed with a welded blow-through to the cab). I hit a steady 169.4 dB from 21KHz all the way down to 16Hz. You might say it was pretty loud and sounded pretty good. And I was considered the LIGHTWEIGHT! LMAO!

If you want to know what I have in my current truck. . . Well, let's just say that it doesn't have anywhere near as much ignorant wattage as the last one: I have 22 watts by 4 from the source unit (a Pioneer MOSFET head unit -- 45W x 4 MAX -- going into Kicker Impulse 4x6s and 6.5s) and 180 WRMS going into a single Kicker Impulse 12. Not much, but it sure beats the factory system.

As far as your question: depending on how your system sounds is whether or not 250 watts is respectable. What are you running it to? I hate to say it, but $$$ has a lot to do with it -- I would rather have a nice 50Wx2 high-end amp than a low-end amp pushing 2000 watts (because that 2000 watts is an ILS rating: If Lightning Strikes it, it MIGHT make 2000 watts). It all depends on what you have.
