I was just wondering how I could find out how much db's my system could reach. I know that it's not powerful enough to compete. Are there any places that could measure it for me? Thanx for any help.

I was using a similar meter that goes up to 136 dbs and i maxed it out with this system holding the meter 6 inches from and level with the HU. its three 12's with 1000 watt class d mono amp in a 88 lincoln towncar :D

but an s-10s alot smaller, and theres no seat seperating the airspace, so.....

I've seen 137's with a single 12" audiobahn alum sub in a smaller ported box with around 400 watts to it so...
oh no doubt. A couple of my friends got smaller, loudeer systems. mine was all show. Plus it had a deeper, fuller sound too. But they are set up for SPL and i had mine set up just for rock music.

That is the inside of my truck. The back wall was cut out and a giant speaker box was put in place. Its a 94 s10 regular cab. i now have the kicker metal grill covers painted to match inside. Only over 4 subs right now cause they hit the seats. Never had it tested.... just dont really care to i guess. Gonna get a new amp here soon and probably see how much it gets. You should be able to get your stereo system tested at your local high end car audio shop. I know of one here that charges a certain fee and they will test your system for you. Start making some calls asking if they offer db tests. Should find one near.

if you move the fuzzy pimp hat 15 degrees to the right you will notice about a 5db raise. :haha:

the hat was a joke. I was the only kid in town with an old towncar. It was white, white vinyl top, white leather interior, and dark red or maroon carpet, lol. Plus, to further the joke, i put red neons under it (i never hardly turned them on... it was litterally a joke, you know, like turning on the red light?) it was just alot of fun at parties:p the girls LOVE the hat... i used to have a whole collection of pictures of girls wearing that hat.

yeah I wonder if there is a certain dB level where car alarms are set off. Some1 could probably look that up. I had 2 JL W3 12's with not too much power goin to them and they would set alarms off left and right.

It's moreso frequency dependant I think. You need to get the vehicle to vibrate at it's resonant frequency.

As far as your number it's rather important to know HOW you got metered. Was it totally legal on the dash with the windows up and engine no higher than 2,000 rpms? Were the windows/doors open? Was the mic in the kick, headrest, port, etc....

Kick and port with windows down get good scores. On the dash or at the headreast w/ windows/doors closed tend to get lower yet more realistic numbers :)

tempe, I've never competed before, this was just cruising throught the mall parking lot :haha: I mean I will compete eventually maybe if I can get ahold of what I'm aimin for but for now eh..
btw what is reasont frequency?

Everything has its own resonant frequency. If you had a real time analyzer (rta) and graphed out the sound when you hit something you would be able to see what frequency vibrated the loudest. That is your resonant frequency. With SPL it helps to find your vehicle's resonant frequency. Playing that note or usually just below it will get you the highest numbers.

What I was refering to with the alarms is if you had your tweeters blasting at 135 dB it would not set off the car alarm. The other vehicle w/ the alarm has a resonant frequency of anywhere between 40 and 60 or so hz. Basically the closer you get to the vehicle's resonant frequency the more it will vibrate. The more it vibrates the greater your chance of setting off the alarm.

Just on a side note... On Saturday I was hanging out with a guy and his buddies at a local Steak and Shake. My bud brought his Termlab and his boy brought a laptop. Everyone was messin around on the meter. Other people knew we were doing this. I mean how could you not hear it? Well they set their alarms anyway. Every time someone burped the alarms would go off. If you know this will keep happening why set your alamrs?

dont get defensive man. i was joking w/ ya. :haha: i bet it all looks good together givin the style of car. but i have a suggestion. get some platforms, bellbottoms, cane, butterfly collar shirt missing the top 4 buttons, a cape, and 1 of those gold teefs :rotf: . then you really be pimpin. and i know what you mean about hardly turning on undercar kits. i have 8 tubes and hardly ever used.

I would say realistically under 130db, that Sony amp doesn't even produce 222watts. and the subs are 99.9 % likely to be SVC 4 ohm coils so you are running the amp at 4 ohms stereo (in which you aren't drawing the most amount of power out of the amp or running it at 2 ohms mono bridged ( which the amp can't handle) You haven't said anything about the amp not cutting out/overheating so its probably at 4 ohms stereo with is probably 40 watts per sub. Not to crack on you or anything but you NEED more power!
