I have a 96 SS and having some lighting problems... When i turn the lights on i will drive about 20-30 mins and the lights will flicker from daytime running lamps back to the headlights, just keeps going back and forth. I turn them off leaving the fog lights on and daytime running lamps on for a few min and turn the lights back on til they start flickering again. any suggestions what i can start checking.

Yeppers...I had the EXACT same problem on my SS. Being an SS really had nothing to do with the problem tho I took yhe long expensive why to the fix and replaced all of the relays (no joy). :rant: Turned out to be the light switch. Next time you have the lights on and they start to spaz, wiggle the switch up and down and see if you can make it flicker at will. I took my switch apart, and the contact paths were corroded. I think the heat from the dash light thumb wheel makes the contacts expand and causes the intermittent flicker. Cost about $20. Lots cheaper than $75 for all of the relays. :haha:

Just the headlight switch. The wheel is seperate.

 

You were right!! that did fix my headlights, now i just need to get my dash lights to work. Here is whats going on with that.... The dash lights dont come on at all, dome light still works with the dome light wheel, I put a new fuse in the illum. slot, still nothing, so i just said screw it. I went to turn the dome light on with the wheel and dash lights came on for a split second then when off and popped the fuse. Any idea whats going on?

Sounds like the wheel may be bad also. Glad the light switch worked tho.

Tough call...I'm not a wizard at electrics. If the wheel isn't that much, I'd try replacing it.
