I know a lot of people wait for the notch until they have thier link bars all in place, that way they can raise the axle and see where the centerline needs to be. But that's just how I've known it to be done.

Either way ... get back to working on it.

well i got most of the 5 link in today ill post some pics up if anyonme wants them all i have left is the axle brackets gotta buy a pinion gauge then its time for the weldin and cleanin up the frame so it will be ready for paint come spring

ive got a question on setting the ride height about how far below the stock frame should the axle be i need to know asap because i plan on tackin the axle in tommorow so i can weld everything all at once any help would be great thanks.

 

alright the 5 link is in minus shocks bags and notch isnt cut yet but i have a problem. i have everything bolted up axle welded, and all the bushings and bars in place but it seems to be binding up. i have checked and double checked all of my bars angle s, and mesurements. everthing is placed where it needs to be but i took out the jack stands and it only dropped about 2 inches below the stock frame it looks like it could go more but it wont i even tried standing on it to get it to drop and nothin any body got a suggestion on what to check or is this normal. well thanks for any help

 

mine was binding up and i adjusted the bars and thats what fixed mine. u got any pics of what u are talking about.i understand what u r sayin but i just wanna see exactly how far the axle is down.

well here it is it is 3" below the stock frame

 

you might want to re weld those tabs. looks like you are not getting good penetration. what kind of welder are you using?

 

its a cheap 220 some of the welds look real sloppy but there is good penetration lot of splatter to from running a flux core wire

 

yea i welded mine with a stick also. i wish i had the mig. back then. but tomorrow i will go measure how far my axle is below the stock frame. u might just need to adjust your bars.

 

they are set at 15.5 like they are suppose to be but im running the medium sized link would that change anything

 

im not sure. i didn't have ne problems with mine when i first put it on. but i adjusted the bars a little b/c i thought the driveshaft was being pushed into the tranny too much and when i did that i would have it aired up all the way and i would dump it and it would drop half way then stop then about 20 sec later it would finally just drop the rest of the way.

 

flux core......have you set the welder properly for that thickness of metal? i'm pretty sure those tabs are 1/4" plate and thats gonna take some heat to get all the way into it. see if you can find some scraps to practice on for a little bit then go back and hit those tabs again. i just wouldnt want to see your truck drop to the ground doin 80 on the interstate.....

 

yeah good point but yes i did get good penetration i wasnt getting a good feed on that side of the tab so i went over a few of the welds to clean em up but because of my position my puddle drooped and made the weld look like shit

 

but then again i should hit them again to clean them up the passenger side looks much better

 

okay i found my problem when i was letting my axle down i found my driveshaft bottomed out in to the tranny so i have to have it shoirtened about 2 inches.

i think so if someone could tell me approximatly how far it is from the top of the axle to roughly the bottom of the stock frame at full lift is and maybe if you could tell me how much the drive shaft moves in and out through full range of articulation

 

i don't think u should have to cut ne out of the drive shaft.

 

no i have to have it shortened there is no doubt in my mind on that one it was holding my suspension up it just a matter of going either 1 or 2 inches out of it

 

i didn't have to cut mine. try adjusting your bars.
