Getting too much fuel

Hey 2.2l'ers.
As most of your know I put a new engine (took 3 times) in my 1995 Sonoma, aka the Ho Getta. A little over 2,000 miles on it since the last engine install. It is running pretty good, but she seems really thirsty lately. Now at RPM's to about 1500, it has a miss. Could it be that possibly it is dumping too much fuel in the cylinders? after 1500 RPM's she runs pretty smooth, could it be the engine is running harder and is taking the "added" fuel? So I know it doesn't really have a computer per say, but something is telling the engine to dump more fuel. Could it be the O2 sensor? Yes it is new, but it is Rock Auto....Was thinking on getting a better O2 sensor??? I have an electric fan on it and it does stay cool. Could that be the issue??? The engine may thing it just starting and dump more fuel? Anything else that could be causing it? Yes as you know I live in California and gas prices are getting way out of hand. I want to say thank you in advance for any assistance.

What makes you think it's running rich? It's probably using more fuel due to the misfire. When you say it's staying cool, is it too cool? If it's not getting up to operating temp(usually 195°), it often won't let the fuel system go into closed loop and would cause poor fuel economy. Make sure the fan isn't running constantly and the thermostat is good. I would check into the misfires and not a rich condition unless it's not getting up to temp.

Well this is a new engine to the truck. It has an electric fan on it. It gets up to operating temperature and the fan kicks on. The fan doesn't run constantly. It was never a problem and it did stay cool. No with this engine, it currently has about 2,000 miles since the "last time" it was installed. Yes it has a miss through idle up to about 1,500-2,000 RPMs Once I get on the power band, the miss goes away and she runs great. It s using considerably more fuel. i pulled the plugs on it and 12,4 smelled like gas. Changed the oil and it smelled like gas. I did just order a new temperature sensor. I am thinking on putting the stock fan and air cleaner back on it. Thank you so much for the response.

A bad temp sensor, the one to the computer with the black and yellow 2 wires, can cause the engine to run rich. If it is open due to being faulty or either wire is damaged the computer will think it's -40° F&C and seriously richen the mixture.
BTW it's has nothing to do with the gauge sender which has 1 dark green wire. That is a completely separate circuit just for the gauge (in 95).

Ok so my 1995 Sonoma doesn't have a computer right? Are you talking about the sensor that screws into the thermostat? or another wire? Sorry if those are stupid questions, just trying to get this thing right. I am confident it isn't the engine persay, something is telling it to dump more fuel. Thank you for the quick response.

What do you mean it doesn't have a computer. Did you rip it out and put a carb on it?
The sensor I'm talking about is usually at the front of the intake. It could be on the thermostat housing. I can't remember exactly where they were placed every year. There will be 2 wires to it. Yellow and black. They go to the ECM. Whether that's on the inner fender or behind the glove box doesn't matter. It has to have a coolant temp input to figure out how much fuel to provide. Colder temps need more gas. If it's putting out to much that will be most evident at lower rpms. Higher rpms can handle being too rich better.

Ya here is a picture. it never (that year) had a computer.

No it does not have a computer or ECM. i can post a pic for the engine compartment. There is nothing in the engine compartment, on the left side on top of the radiator over flow container, like in the upcoming years. let me check behind the glove box. I know there are 3 relays in the glove box, do any or those anything to do with. I did find the temperature sensor you are talking about. It is under the left side of the thermostat housing.

Ok thanks for the help everyone. This weekend I am going to see if I have power from the computer to my engine temperature sensor. i have a new one to install, so hopefully there will be power going to it. I am also going to install and new IAC. Again, thanks everyone for the input.

UPDATE. It appears to be fixed! The miss is gone. Idles super smooth (850-900 RPMs). Good throttle response. What I did was, I "ponied up" the money for OEM fuel injectors ($427). Got rid of the cheap Rock Auto ones. I would like to thank everyone for all the help and suggestions.
