the fuse is to protect the wiring. How long is the wire run?

 

from my alternators to the batteries behind my notch i would say maybe 12 feet

 

then yes, you want a fuse within 18" of the battery.

 

You'll need 2 fuses for proper protection. One right as the power wire comes out of the alternator, and the other right before the buss bar. This will only protect the wire that is in between the fuses, as both sides of the wire will be "hot".

you think i should do a couple of 1/0 runs from each alternator because of the distance and all that?

 

I would. If you dont already have the wire, personally I would do two runs of 4/0 considering you plan on running 4500 or so watts. Save yourself some precious space and money.

Check out your local welding supply store man. They should be able to hook you up with some nice flexible 4/0 for under 5 a foot and lugs for around 1.79 a piece.

But yeah if you are gonna run 1/0 id run 3-4 runs for power, Your relocating all of the batteries to the bed right? If so Id run 3-4 runs straight to the frame too.

Im assuming your still planning on runnin the T40001 and an amp for speakers, and you have other power accessories in the truck right? Should be absolutely sick man, I am jealous.

 

why would you not take and put a few of the grounds straight to the negitive side of the batteries? i think when i get off work tonight i will look into this a little more. i just don't want wasted power over an easy fix

 

What do you mean. I meant ground the negative side of the battery straight to the frame.

 

yeah i was but i was thinking for each power wire run a ground the same size back to the battery. i heard running a ground straight to the battery with large amounts of current lessens the resistance.

 

Im not visualizing what you are saying very well.

If ALL of your batteries are in the bed, and there isnt one up front, then your best bet as far as a good ground wit low resistance would be to keep it very short and sweet, and ground it to the frame.

Now if you had a battery up front as well, you may want to run equal length runs to the front. This is what I have. I have one battery up front and two in back, 3 runs for power, 3 for ground.
