Fuel pump not priming...

So I went on s10forums and asked this question but they are a bunch of slack f****... Got no response at all. Here's my question..

I just recently bought a 97 Isuzu hombre and am having issues with the fuel pump. From a dead cold start she primes and starts just fine. Seems to run at idle and with a little gas but if I turn it off and try turning it back on, she won't prime. Ive got a couple ideas as to what it could be but I was hoping to verify these to be valid factors.

1) fuel pump is going out. This boggles me though, ifit were going out, wouldn't it shut off my truck after a minute or so? Why would it prime when cold but not prime after its spent some time running?

2) fuel filter clogged. I used seafoam in the gas tank the first time I filled up and ran it all the way through. I've also been using Lucas every now and then just to keep things clean as possible. Seems like I would have had issues prior if that was the case.

3) fuel pump relay going bad. When I turn the key to accessory I hear a click but I can't really tell where its coming from. Standing outside the door and turning the key, sounds like its coming from right under the cab. I've got a Haynes manual but I left it at my uncle's house so I have no idea where the relay is.

These are my best guesses. It's obviously fuel or electrical related, I'm leaning towards electrical in hopes I don't have to buy a $270 fuel pump! Any suggestions would help.

Where did you find a fuel pump for $60? Advance sells them for $265, thats the only place I've looked so far.

The truck has 205k miles on her.

So it couldn't be the relay? The pump isn't priming at all now. t worked fine wo times after I first encountered the problem. I let it run for 5 minutes or so but as soon as I turned it off and tried it again, the pump wouldn't prime. It's weird that it would pump fuel the whole time it ran but wouldn't prime afterwards.

OK. Here it is. Your truck or any vehicle for that matter in order to keep car running and have it start normally is that every vehicle needs 12volts right? Well when my ACDELCO battery started to go way passed its expected life of 7 years. My fuel pump wouldn't kick on right away and this was in warm weather a couple months ago. My fuel pump wouldn't kick on. The reason b/c my battery started to die. Every battery needs 12.6v or higher while running and with engine off too. Anything below you'll need a new battery. Try checking the battery first. I would just buy a new pump from the Dealer ship along with fuel sending unit and strainer if you haven't changed those last two yet. Aftermarket fuel pumps and sending units are junk. The only reasons a pump would go would be 1) its worn and 2) b/c this ethanol. ***IVE BEEN ADDING LUCAS ETHANOL FUEL SYSTEM TREATMENT ADDITIVE TO MY TRUCK AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH OR EVERY OTHER FILL UP. HAVENT HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH MY TRUCK SINCE I REPLACED MY PUMP IN '11.*** IM CONVINCED THIS ETHANOL IS HELL ON THESE OLDER TRUCKS EVEN THESE NEWER VEHICLES CONTRARY TO WHAT ALL THESE MANUFACTURES SAY. HOPE THIS HELPS GOOD LUCK!!!

Well, I replaced my relay, didn't fix it. Looks like I'll be buying a fuel pump. I'm not buying one from the stealership though! I bet they sell them for $500 or more! i only paid $1100 for the truck, it be a waste to put that much into it. Actually, I've got a new fuel pump in my 02 blazer(no motor in it right now), would it fit my truck? It has a 4.3l, would that matter? I'd like this to be as cheap as possible ya know...

I needed up just buying a new pump from AutoZone, fixed the problem. I was hoping it was something else but it can't be that easy:/ thanks for all the help guys! I couldn't get any response from s10forums.com... Idk what's up with that. Needless to say, I'll be coming here from now on!

Since I'm in the general 2.2l forum, I'll throw another issue out there I've been wondering about.

I know someone here has dealt with a cracked dash. Mine is really bad! I can't even stand to look at it so I tuckeda towel up there...

What's some fixes you guys have done? Maybe I should create a new post with a specific title but I thought this might be worth trying. I know they make dashats and molded dash covers, but has anyone done their own with cloth or fiberglass, or something else? Just trying to get some ideas.

Lol, with my discount at my local chevy dealership I get 15% above cost on most stuff and 20% off list on others my GM FUEL PUMP back in 2011 only cost me around $92.00 or so. As far as the cracked dash. Only reason mine is cracked is because my tweeter speakers on top of dash were startin to go and I hit dash on a cold winter morning BAD IDEA and cracked it in several places. I'll be getting someone to fiberglass me one soon. Good luck

Dann! $92 dollars at the stealership! Even without the discount it would be cheaper than I paid at az. What a rip off. I had to have it though, had to have q truck for work. My blazer is still down and out. I might just throw a motor in it and sell, I'm tired of seeing it.

I thought about a fiberglass but I'm not so great at it. I thought about using some heavy but thin foam and just upholstering it with tweed. Cheap, easy, quick...
