Extreme Frustration finding Inner Tie Rod Ends

My cheap inner and outer tie rods crapped out. Since I decided I didn't want to go through all the headache of going under the car and getting an alignment done again in a year, I opted to buy higher quality tie rod ends.

I bought the Moog ES3380T inner tie rod end at amazon. The picture on the website looks different, but what you receive is a tie rod with the hole for the grease zerk on the side rather than the bottom of the tie rod end which is great.

But herein begins my problem. I got the grease zerk fitting and attempted to screw it in, but I noticed it wasn't going in right. After a few tries I looked closer at the hole for the fitting and I noticed it's not even threaded.:dunno: I started to wonder to myself if this was normal so I called a couple different parts stores. O'Reilly said they had some, so I asked the clerk to take a look at the all the ones they had and he also said the hole isn't threaded in any of them. I then called Autozone, but they said their's weren't greasable and they weren't moogs. After that, I remembered a post I read on here with a guy in the first gen forums complaining about the inners with the zerk hole in the wrong location and how he said NAPA had the correct ones. Sooo I called NAPA and they did have them with the holes in the right locations, but once again they told me the holes were NOT threaded. Fed up, I decided to call the dealer, but the dealer said they discontinued the parts.

So what gives?? I really don't want to install the same crap parts again. Is it a major issue if the zerk hole is on the bottom rather than the side? Also, what would you guys recommend getting?

I think I remember seeing zerks that were press in a long time ago, so I'm thinking that is what these are set up for. I never thought that was a good idea, but if Moog made them that way, maybe they work?

Almost every tie rod or ball joint I have ever done that have grease nipples were almost never threaded. Just a self tapping nipple/zerk. Press in ones I find suck. You should be good.

Forgot to mention that Amazon has shipped me the wrong tie rod end
THREE times. This is seriously too much lost time and too much of a headache to save $40 on a part. If they mess up again, I'm just going to say screw it, get a refund, and buy it locally.

I would rather have a sealed unit that has to be replaced every 100k mi or so, rather than deal with zerks. Always seems to be messy, and I don't know if I'm getting them properly greased. And my grease guns all seem to leak. Sucks to be me!

Depending on terrain I guess but I find any sealed unit put on the front end of s-trucks only last about 40-50k KMhere in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area.) I put about 130k KM on mine and only did lower ball joints when I bought it and upper arms last year. Steering linkage from tie rod to tie rod is the same as when I bought the truck and still good. I grease the SHIT out of it every oil change.
