E-brake doesn't lock?

My ebrake doesn't latch/lock.

The brake works fine, cable does not stick.

It doesn't lock down when I push it. The release, if I pull it, it just kinda hangs out, like a spring is broken?

I don't have a chiltons, I did a quick search, and didn't find anything.

I am thinking on friday, I am going to tackle pulling the mechanism out and looking at it.

I don't know if this is a common problem or? The truck had like 65k on it when it happened. I am hoping for a quick and easy fix.

Is it an easy fix? Easy part to come by, or to substitute?

Got it pulled out, the spring inside of it is shot, you can see into the assembly and see its broken.

Was a PITA to get out.

great...not what I want to hear....mine has a similar prob. spring seems fine, but won't lock when pressing the pedal down. think it's the same prob as yours?

Pull it out and find out.

Looking in thru the top of the assembly, I can see a broken spring and a plastic bushing that looks like its shifted over.

I tried looking on rock auto for a new one, they do not list one. I don't know if I want to drop in a used one, just to have to replace it a year later lol...

Mine did that too.
All I did was get WD40 and if you look by the E-brake pedal you will see a pin that latches in place and locks the E-brake in. I just sprayed that and just worked it in and it works fine.
try that first its cheaper and easier.
