After a search I found that http://www.rodney.chalker.com/o2_simulator.htm
had a way to make your own o2 simulator. However, that site is down and I was wondering if anyone has those directions or know how to do it using a resistor.

oh ok those are part number 42009.....yeah the other ones do not have a crush washer and have a counter sink edge on them instead and they are part number 42002. just curious, what made you use the one with the crush washer instead of the other with out it?

It's one of those things that gets rediscovered a lot. :)

Are you sure the code is p0420? If so and this trick isn't working. You could contact http://wait4meperformance.com/, get a tune and have DTC p0420 turn off for good. Their tunes are $75.

Update: My code came back...... said F*** it and just unplugged the o2 again

i am going to put an electronic cut-out infront of my cat will i need to do this to my truck?

Yeah.

I done this to mine when I eliminated the cat. I only used one fouler with the smallest hole. Hacksawed the metal "cap" off the end of the o2 sensor, screwed it in, and put it back in the pipe.

2000 miles and no code.

Every one of my last few vehicles all have had oxygen sensor simulators. I typically remove the catalytic converters to improve my gas mileage. You can only install the simulators to replace the rear oxygen sensors. You cannot use 02 simulators in anyway for the front oxygen sensors as The ECM uses the sensors to adjust your engine's Air/Fuel ratio. Contrary to what some people might say the ECM only will throw a CEL for the rear 02 sensor if the voltage is to high or to low , if it dwell time between low and high is to long or short , and if the 02 heater circuit is open, too many amps or to little amps. I know this because I've hand built the 02 simulators used on my vehicles. It really isn't the rocket since that some people make it out to be. In the future you may say look up tables to check between the rear and front 02 sensor data but do you really think companies that will not even use bolts where they can get away with it are going to splurged on ECU memory and programming, I think not... You could also use mechanical method of just moving the 02 sensor out of the rich exhaust gas by using a spark plug anti fouler. They also work well but they will get plugged with carbon about once a year and you have to remove them and clean them with break cleaner (a real pain). The best way would be to get a programmer and just have the ECM not look for rear 02 data.

Hi. I just recently bought my 98 S10 4x4 with a 4.3L and I have had to do a lot of work on it. One thing was the cat was not any good so I had the shop cut it out and put in a piece of pipe and a new muffler and like everyone else I am now getting the same code. The only difference is the guy at the local auto parts store said I should put a cat back on because the code that it was throwing meant it didn't have enough back pressure and will mess up my engine, make too much pressure in the crank case. I haven't seen any of you say anything about this so I am wondering maybe the guy at the store didn't know what he was talking about.

Well my cat was bad and making my truck run like shit and knocking the melted catalyst out if it was a whole lot cheaper than buying a new one for now. Oh and bending in the fins on the second O2 sensor was free too... So...

It may not be right but it works for me. The fact that it also sounds better and might be .0001% quicker than stock is just a bonus.

Hello Im new here but I've been following this thread for a while now. Been thinking for a looong time I'd like to re-do the exhaust on my 96 dodge ram. Im very interested in this trick using the spark plug arrestors , My only question is do you do this on the front or the back O2 sensor, or do you do something different with the front and then the rear one, just curious, any input would be a great help and save me alot of time. Thanks all.

You just do it to the o2 that is after the cat.

So if I decided I wanted to go gut my cat on my 99 4.3 s10 tomorrow. All I would have to do is put those nonfoulers on and I wont have any problems at all? Would my gas mileage increase or decrease?

just curious, did you drill the anti fouler all the way through? or did you not go through the small hole at the bottom and it was left alone? also why not use a 9/16" drill bit or a 19/32" drill bit?
