My truck is getting really bad gas mileage. 13mpg. And even less now that it has about 300 pounds of snow and sand in the back.
No check engine light, no rough running, no misfire, starts up right away in the morning or at any time. Cap and rotor are new. I don't smell fuel anywhere when I open up the hood or something.
I do a lot of "open loop" driving as my work is just a few minutes away, and I work about 9 hours a days. I check the live data for my 02 sensors on my scanner and they seem plenty active.
I have the 2WD S10 with the 3.42 gearing, stock size tires (small 205/75/15), inflated to 40psi.
I have synthetic oil and a K&N oil filter.
With all of the above considered, why am I getting 13mpg instead of the advertised 16mpg-18mpg?
I'm looking for information that doesn't even have to be S10 specific. If you're getting awful gas mileage and you don't have misfires or CEL on, and you don't smell fuel anywhere, what would in general cause bad fuel economy?
If my injectors or regulator were leaky, wouldn't I be able to smell it in the engine bay?
