To bring this thread back up, but Im in the market for a bolt in, rollpan. What is everybodys opinion? Who's got the best fiberglass rollpan? My weld-in steel rollpan is rotten and starting to rust away. Damn IL winters, salt, Calcium chloride.
I paid $100.00 for my steel pan......have it welded in; and even though it looks nice; I wish I would have went with a nice chrome Blazer bumper. I couldn't find one at the time; and had to do something with the rear bumper because it was so rotted. I found a near perfect Blazer bumper a few months back at the local pick'n pull; but didn't have the right tools or the cash on me at the time.............and those bastards crush stuff way too soon there. I've noticed that the people around here really tailgate you when there's nothing on the back of your truck (but a roll pan) to scare them away! As soon as I welded the roll pan in people started parking just inches from the back of my truck too. I'd go with a nice Blazer bumper......won't rot as fast and it just might save your bed/tailgate in a minor fender bender too.
Paint the outside and use undercoating on the inside to protect it from the sand that destroys the paint and the salt that gets in afterwards. Thing is while your steel one will look like crap in after a few winters there's a high chance a fiber one will look like crap from day 1. They're just no good IMO. Blazer bumper also looks good like Ed said.
My $.02 I'll look and see if I can find one though if thats what you're wanting.
