i have a 2000 s10 xtreme, and my a/c dont work and i never use it, and i just got some obx racing header, and id like them to be more visible, free up some space, and put a little less drag on the engine...so any help would be much appreciated thanks!!! i got 2 weeks layed off so i got plenty of time..thank you guys!!

well, first you need to purge the system of r-134. there should be 2 schrader valves on the lines, a high side and low side to do it.

after purging the system, undo the lines, unbolt the compressor, unbolt the radiator and remove the condenser from in front of it.

in my opinion, i'd leave the a/c on it...if anything at least for the resale value.

also, you'll either need to get a shorter belt or use a a/c delete pulley.

The AC delete pulley does not work. You still have to buy a smaller belt to use it. If you need to buy a belt anyway, just buy a belt for a stock truck without AC. Dayco Poly Cog P/N 5060640 (Metric 6PK1625) at 64 inches long.

purging refrigerent is illegal.....but if your system "accidently" develops a leak over night.....your straight....gotta love legal loopholes

i'm with these guys tho....if you ever sale it...you'll need the AC back on...but if your dead set on never gettin rid of it...go ahead

removin the main parts is fairly easy...the only part you might have trouble with is the evaporator....I (as well as others) can help you out in this thread if you do decide you want it all gone

alright well ill be starting it next monday because i have to drive to michigan this weekend, ill buy the shorter belt tomorrow though for it...ill try to take pics as i go so that u can see if i got everything right!!! thanks!

alright thanks for the help guys...yeah i know its illegal to let it leak out....but i think it might happen "accidently" because i dont know how else would i do it legally? but anyway i am keepin the truck probably for a long time, it has a brand new engine, and i just paid it off so the plan is to keep it and build it up into the truck that im sure alot of u know him on here csxtreme, and buyin something different for my daily driver next year, i dont care about the resale value at this point and if i need it back on ill put it back on ill just keep it in the shop barn if i ever need it...i planned on just getting a shorter belt and said screw the bypass pulley...and yes i want my header to be more visible and with the ac in the way...and if i ever do a turbo build depending on what i want to do i might have to remove it anyway for the room..

well its all done was easier then i expected...the only thing i havnt removed is the box...but i think ill just plug it for the mean time!!! :) thanks everyone!!

here you go guys...this is my engine after i deleted my ac and i was able to put on my other intake since the ac isnt in the way and i have no bypass pully and got the shorter belt and i noticed my acceleration has improved just a little..enough for me to notice since i got the shorter belt...next up is the electric fan!!!!

its a 2000 extreme!!! it uses R134A, not freon! r134A is not bad for the Ozone so how is it illegal? secondly, if you take it to a tech to have them drain the system and tell them to keep the refrigerant as payment they'll just laugh at you.. you can get it for 6 bucks at the parts store.

doesn't matter...go get certified before you start spittin out comments..better yet...call the EPA

and no they wont laugh at you...most will gladly take your refrigerent and store it....and yes they will charge someone else to put it in...not only does a 3000 dollar recovery machine suck it out...but it also filters and cleans it..not to mention removes moisture...so yes there gonna charge you to recharge an AC

sorry.../rant

lol tangz......it doesnt matter i let it all out anyway slowly..and it wasnt much in there anyway...i think i had a leak to begin with and probably why it wasnt working...

the fine is $20,000.00 and the person that turns you in gets half,

and while r134 isnt as harmful to the ozone, it still is harmful, and the opportunity for getting hurt, from frozen fingers to losing an eye (from freezing) to the refridgerant displacing oxygen and causing suffocation, again this is in the extreme, but its possible.

i dont work on cars for a living, i repair home and business air conditioning systems, and i work on my car as a hobby.

you wouldnt pour your antifreeze down a storm drain, your drain oil on the ground

yes its a pain to do, go some where pay someone to recover the refridgerant that you wont use, hey its a pain for me, buying thousands of dollars of tools paying a company to take the stuff off my hands not to mention the many trips back and fourth to the truck hauling all of this junk to the back yard. its a lot of extra work but its for a greater good

and perhapes thats the way to look this, its more about a greater good, even being in the industry i dont know for sure how much i am helping the ozone or how much folks in my industry are helping, but i do know were hurting it less then we did years ago

sorry for the rant just my two cents

yeah but i knew there wasnt anything in mine...because when i would feel the container it would never get cold like it should have when u use the ac and no water condesation on it or anything...so i knew it was leaking it anyway..so woulda been a waste of money to have someone do it if there was nothing there to begin with...

#24 ·
My point exactly... So I guess ima get a small can of the dye stuff and see where my HUGE A$$ leak is.. lol

Can't believe I would lose all that refridgerant in 12 hours... I must have a hole the size of a pencil somewhere....

actually i thought there was a reward too, but on the epa's website it says $10,000 fine and no reward for reporting it lol..brandt are you epa certified? i am, but only because i wanted to do HVAC for a living and changed my mind 2 semesters in lol
